Default extended Honda warranty?

Purchase, or Forget about the extended Honda warranty for the S2000? Here is a list of options for the extended warranty in Canada:

COMPREHENSIVE(bumper to bumper) $With Roadside Assistance $Without Roadside Assistance

4 Year/100,000 km $658 $538
5 Year/100,000 km $828 $678
6 Year/100,000 km $1,017 $837
6 Year/160,000 km $1,495 $1,315
7 Year/160,000 km $1,724 $1,514

Unused coverage may be transferred to new owner.

How many are thinking long term and buying extended warranties for peace of mind, possibly saving $ in the long run, and adding to the resale value of the car?

I would do it. It is so worth it. I bought the 5yrs plan for my Prelude the trade in value for it is much better than other Prelude that have expired. This summer... I'll go for the 7yrs for my S.

Clearly it's a personal choice. Many love the peace of mind and immediately bought it. Extended warranties are a 'big' money maker for the company. Personally, I tend to think that most major problems will show up within the first three years provided the car gets a fair amount of use. I took a wait and see attitude. One can always buy it at the end of the normal 3 year period. At that time I'll make a better informed decision based upon my own experience and that of other's who will have had the car longer and driven it more. Many will be in their 5th year.

PS, when they say '7' year warranty, that includes the standard first 3. . . so you are paying for 4 more years - not 7 more.

Sounds like that's about $500/yr for additional peace of mind... though consumer reports & most recommend against extended warranties, as they're usually not worth the $$ vs. actual repair costs, at least for reliable products.

The extended warrantee for Canadian Honda Care will be refunded if you do not use it at the end of the 7 years.

Take it!...especially the roadside assistance. The Roadside covers items like your tires and such. I only had 700kms on my car when I got a puncture close to the sidewall on my rear tire. The dealer replaced it at no charge....

I took the 6 year/160k warranty also. I Plan on keeping this car for a Very Very long time. Hopefully keep it as my collectable....So if you plan on keeping the car for a lng time also ext warr is somthing to keep in mind

My puncture

those prices seem pretty good. dealerships will vary in how much they charge for warranty coverage to make a few extra dollars.

I purchased a 6/100 through a local credit union for ~950 with the works - and I don't need to go to a Honda dealership to get the work done.

Working in a service department for a dealer, I can say I think that extended service plans are a waste. I agree that all the tweaks and such will be fixed/gone/show-up in the first 3 years while the factory warranty is in effect. If you are the type that worries a lot about future problems that may arise, remember-YOU ARE DRIVING A HONDA! It will not break!
