Default Facing an s2000 dillema.

Hello everyone I am going through a dillema and was wondering what everyone here has to say.

I am only 18 and been driving a honda cr-v since i got my license. Which is just over a year now. But my parents has recently offered me the decesion of upgrading my honda cr-v to a honda s2000. Now i do not want to sound like a spoiled little kid, and i also do not want to sound like i have been working since i was 6 and have saved up enough to buy it all on my own, so yeah my parents are buying it, not me. At first i was thinking F*** yeah i want an s2000! But as i have put more thought into it i realized that i do not have enough expierence yet to fully enjoy the s2000 safely. So i I have been thinking of starting off with a car with less power so i can establish a good background of driving a car with manual transmission. I have drove my brothers scion tc with a couple bolt ons and manual transmission for about a week when i was over a this place on vacation. I did not grind any gears and only stalled twice on the first day. So i kind of have the basic idea of how to drive a car with manual transmission.

So what should i do?

Have my parents buy the s2000 or just start off with like a 5th gen prelude or something?

Comments? Suggestions? Flames?

If you want to start with something that can prepare you for an s2000. Best would be something like a miata since it is rwd and manuel. If you start off with something like a prelude then you don't get experience with rwd imo.

Plus miata are dirt cheap cars to attain.

If your having doubts about being able to safely drive an s2000 then maybe you should stick to your gut instinct and wait a little bit. I suggest getting a 5spd 240sx to learn how a rwd car behaves instead of a prelude.

The S2000 is a perfect car to learn driving an RWD.

If you'll crash an S2000 because you can't keep your foot off the gas pedal in the wrong situation, you'll crash the 240sx and miata aswell. It's not like the S2000 is a supercar with endless amounts of power. Any RWD can bite you if you're not careful.

I like the honesty here.

Practice, get one, and be gentle at first. Don't think you're invincible, the second you do that is the second you quickly find out you're not.

Not many kids your age can admit to such things which demonstrates your maturity. Based on this, buy the S2000 and be careful. Learn its ways.

Hats off to your folks who trust you enough to take you to another level in driving experience and pleasure. The S2000 is one car that you can drive like an oldie and still enjoy. As you gain more confidence and experience you can push the S to find your new driving limits. The S is a perfect car for this.
Know your limits and stick to them, let time and experience expand your limits naturally.
Your parents rock ....dude
safe driving!

Get an 06+ with VSA, make sure you always have decent tires and you'll be fine. One plus for the S2000 is that below 6k it is slow. If you take your time to learn it and be smart you shouldn't have a problem.
