Default Is the factory CD Changer worth the extra $$?

Hey guys and gals;

I am in the process of ordering a 02' S2K and I would like to keep the options to a minimum...
My question to you is: "Is the factory CD changer worth it?

I am aware that the sound system in the MY 02 has been upgraded and that is why I am now considering leaving it stock and just adding the factory changer...
Does anyone know what the cost is?

Let me know what your thoughts are on this one.

Thanks.

No!

Just get an Alpine changer. It is compatible with the stock Honda deck, has a better warranty, and I'd trust a car stereo installer to install even something as simple as a changer long before I would a service department. That's kind of like going to a family physician with a specialist-grade problem and expecting them to provide the best care available...

Sondra's right. I bought a stock changer with my original s2k; if I had it to do over again, I'd go with Alpine.

I would say go ahead with the Honda CD changer if not for the shoddy job of installation that my dealership did.... a lot of messy carpet cuts etc. At least you get that cool S2000 cover to put over the mounting brackets. Then again, the changer was one of the options that the dealer "threw in" to make up for not being able to get the color combination I wanted so I guess I can't complain... oops, I guess i just did!

get the alpine unit from a good car stereo place. Better price, better installation, better peace of mind. local honda dealers actually sell aftermarket alpines at several hundred more than you and I can just walk into a alpine dealer to get it at. and they sometimes have those alpine installers do it too and just collect the mark up!

I'll chime in here...

I saved the OEM changer out of my Lude to put in the S2k. Unfortunately Honda changed the plug. Sold it on ebay for $150 or so. Not bad considering it was in a 1998 car!

I bought the alpine and the adaptor plug for $250, and installed it when I was installing Lucid's rear panels. If you do both at the same time the install is a piece of cake. No cutting whatsoever.

I mounted (well really placed) the changer in the empty space where the jack and lug wrench is under the panel in the trunk well. I ran the wire under the fixed carpet in the trunk. It fits PERFECT. This is also better for me, because I wouldn't be able to throw my golf clubs in there with an OEM, due to the way they mount it. You also have the additional benefit of it being completely concealed!

...Sometimes you can expect that, but depends on the family doc, and the problem!

To stay on-topic, I'm happy with mine, and got it "thrown in" at no additional charge (I did not pay a dime over MSRP). If your dealer won't do that, then maybe you should go with the Alpine. And one last thing, I easily haul my clubs in the trunk with the OEM-mounted changer, but that's a regular stand bag, not a cart bag.

Unfortunatly I use a larger bag, because I keep all my crap in it, including 15 clubs (I know over the limit), shoes, balls, etc.

Plus I'm lazy and use a cart all the time...
