factory oil filter
do all hondas use the same factory oil filters?
i was at the dealership the other day to get an oil change and i just wanted to make sure they put in the right oil filter. they told me all the filters were the same.
i'm in the boonies and when i called in to make the appointment, the receptionist asked me what model honda i had. i told her an S2000 and she asked me if it was a CIVIC. A CIVIC!! WTF!!
i told trust them.

According to the study, the Mobil 1 and Purolator Pure One filters are the best. Some people have been able to get the original Japanese manufactured filters which are suppose to be great also.
Alas, the filter that came on your S2000 from the factory is probably the only real Honda factory filter it will see. Based on the link below, I believe that there is a worse product than the US-made Honda filter: the Canadian-made one.

Based on this test, I have decided to go with the small (there are only two sizes, apparently) Hamp oil filter, which is made in Japan and is reportedly used by Spoon on their cars and reportedly designed by Honda as an upgrade. The best price I have found is $7, with free shipping for 10 or more. This price is less than the Mobil 1, but more than most. (I have a source, if anyone is interested.)
The small vs. large filter controversy is complicated. Large filters offer more filtering area and probably clean the oil better. Small filters may get the oil flowing a little faster and help the oil pressure at high RPMs.

I would be interested in a source for the Hamp filters. Also, do you know if these work with the Honda oil filter wrench? I bought that along with some STP filters (which are the same size as the Mobil 1), and it doesn't fit. I think someone else had this problem recently as well.

Fram gets slammed a lot (probably deservedly so), but I like the Fram X2. I've been keeping tabs on my oil since I started using it at 3750mi, and the oil looks pretty good.
Anyway, there's been tremendous discussions on this subject, and wasu you should poke around with the search tab for a while. Lots of strong opinions!
