Default Factory Roll Bar

Ive been looking around trying to find out if an '01 has a factory roll bar. Any body have any ideas? i asked a company that does track days at Summit Point Raceway and they said that i didnt need an aftermarket roll bar because it has a pop up roll bar. Is this true??

All S2000's have factory roll bars behind the seats, inside the hoops.

However, it is not a pop-up. The hoops are as high as they get.

The windshield frame is also reinforced, but a big impact will bend it in. Best idea is to not roll the car.

The windshield frame is our "rollbar" not the hoops behind the seats...

No. First of all, the roll hoops are stronger because they are not cantilevered out like the windshield frame is. Which is why there are numerous known examples of the windshield frame partially or completely collapsing while the hoops survive intact. Of course, there are also impacts that tear the whole car apart, so it's not like the hoops are invulnerable.

Secondly, everything works as a system. No one part of it is the "real" roll bar.

I have asked the question of several Atlanta S2kers who have taken theirs belly up. The windshield frame and trunk deck support the car. The built in roll bars don't seem to ever touch.

That is a workable answer for me, I sit 3" or 4" higher than the built in roll bars.

This all depends on how fast you are going, how fast you are rolling, what angle you hit at, etc. The windshield frame can take more than the static weight of the car, but there are a number of crunched-in S2000 windshields that prove a violent enough roll will cause it to buckle.
