If that's all we have left in our society - to be concerned what others might think, to be "embarrassed" if we don't drive a high-dollar car - then our future is pretty much doomed. It's not what you drive, it's what you are - kind, compassionate, honest, caring, respected -- a decent human being. Screw the damn car.

The owner of the old finance company I worked at was worth in the neighborhood of 200-500 million. He drove an E class benz.

I'm glad that where I work, I'm judged based on my performance and not what kind of car I drive.

I love the S2000 for sure; however, if I do graduate and become a dentist like I'm planning, then I really wouldn't mind selling the S and getting a fast Porsche or Ferrari. I mean, it honestly is better in every way except the price. This coming from a stock S2000, if I am to mod it, I might become more attached as more mods are put in. I've only had my car for 4 months though, so who knows how I'll be feeling about my car next month.

I think most of the people who have sold their S2000's for a more luxurious car are no longer participating on S2Ki. I stayed around though

Although my purchase was not about stature, I just wanted more room with performance, people definitely looked at me different. S2000 -> M3, and now I'm trying to sell the M3 so I can get my first Porsche - wonder how much that will change people.......I won't change.

I live in an area where the car is a status symbol. The MB350 is the Ford Taurus where I live. Most of the folks my wife and know have Porsche, Lexus, infinity, or BMW. Most don't even know what an S2000 is and dont care even if the wife has a Honda Minivan. Even my wife won't let me take the S to the country club since she thinks the S2000 is for kids especially since mine has a cf hood loud exhaust and is yellow. She wants me to get a BMW so I think I might have to go and get a Z4 M coupe to "fit in" and keep up with the Jones'.

I sold my Porsche to get the S2000 and could not be happier. Here is how I spell the former: "Poor", the rest doesn't really matter.

If you have to buy a Porsche, BMW, or M-B to be recognized in your "circle" (be it at a corporation, a group of friends, etc.) your circle has some pretty serious priority issues.

I can totally understand buying a car "because you can". Hell, if I was making 300K+ per year I'd have a few snazzy rides myself.

I can't understand why upper-level business men and women feel they need to buy these cars for reasons of being accepted though. If you are a "fast tracker", someone moving on up, you are probably pretty good with your money. You probably know how to manage it well. But then you will go and overpay by 10K, 20K, 50K?? for an automobile that you don't need?? Sound business case right there.

I bought my S2000 because it was the most similar thing that I could find to a Formula SAE car. I tested a Boxter. Loved it. Almost bought it. Got the S because it fitted my driving needs more completely. I'll drive it until it can't drive anymore.

Or you could just let everyone else run your life and make your decisions for you.

Where is your man-card? Sack up!!

Buy the M Coupe because you want it. Buy the M Coupe because it makes you smile when you drive it. Tell your wife you will drive the S to the country club because you enjoy it immensly. Do you really care what Dandridge Woodworth over there in his sear suckers, pink sweater and popped collar thinks about you?

Yeah, this is a funny discussion. I'm "someone". I buy what I want when I want it. I don't typically worry about the price. Being "Someone" means I don't have to give a shit what someone else thinks. I drive what I want to drive. "Arriving" means you're not being pushed around anymore.

I had a BMW 740 a couple years ago. God damn it was a POS. Comfortable but, a POS nonetheless. Even the dealer suggested dumping it. I've been happy with every honda I've had since. Working on them gets me away from my programming and lets me do something manly for a change.
