February 2003 S2000 Sales Down 27.7% from 2002 Sales (Link)
Just reading up on Honda's site and came across their February sales numbers. Looks like the S2000 sales are down 27.7% for February 2003 from last year's February.
502 this February compared to 694 from last year's February.

This is most likely because you don't have to wait until feb to get the car under MSRP anymore.
Isn't it funny how quicky percentages change with small numbers?
Imagine if civic sales were down by 100 cars this feb?
I honestly doubt it has anything to do with the car market. But maybe it will get honda to tweak a type R version out.
There is no way honda would release a car that's faster than the current NSX, so don't expect much of a HP shot anytime soon.

I honestly believe much of it could be from increased competition in the $30k+ market and also the weather for the past month.
Not only the competition, but also think of how many "pre-owned" S2000's are hitting the lots. Why buy new when a used S2000 can save you nearly $6k?
Face it. Much of the country had some crappy weather for February. I think a boost will be seen as the weather warms and the tax checks start being deposited.

It's to be expected. Total sales since the S2000's introduction are now over 60,000 worldwide, with 30,542 thru Feb '03 here in the states. The car's in it's third/fourth year of production depending on how you count it. As already mentioned, the $30k sportscar competition has really picked up. No doubt the 350Z is the biggest competition, since that's a heck of car for the price. In fact, I tested one a few days ago. I liked the extra elbow room and the low end torque but --- overall I still love S2000 more. However the Nissan dealership beats Honda hands down when it comes to service; I have a Maxima as well.
I think its honetly because of the bad weather we had. I know the Ne coast got hit pretty good this year so thats 13 states right there and then you got the northern states so I mean whos going to be buying an s2000 during the winter months. Last year was a lot nicer in february so they could drive it off the lot.
