Default Ficticious S2k Owners ?

Some (but not many) of the posts I read appear to be written by people that seem to know little or nothing about owning or driving automobiles, yet they are indicated as being an S2K owner. I assume they had to enter a valid VIN. Do you think some people use someone else's VIN # to appear to be an owner?

Just curious.

damn! i've been caught!! now they'll know i just doctored some of ryan's pics.

actually, i could really care less if they wanna pose as owners if it means that much to them. it's really sad that they have so little to do and so little motivation to save the money to get one, but to each their own, i guess ... assuming your premise is, in fact, true.

If they're posing as S2000 owners, who are they trying to impress?

There was another thread about this a while ago. I think the default is set to owner when you sign up for the site. The details of the car are missing usually if they don't have one (color, year, etc.) and just left it as owner by mistake. It's easy to overlook.

Why go through all that trouble? There's plenty of S2000 VINs on eBay.

That's who the "ignore" button is for.

I'm a owner and don't recall ever putting in my VIN when I registered. Sounds like a hassle to me. Hope the S2KI police don't come kicking down my door in the middle of the night and hauling me off.

"Guests" have nothing to do with owning an S2000. When you pay, you become a "member". When you pay more, you become a "gold member".

It used to be that those who did not own an S2000 or didn't put in their VIN, were designated as "enthusiasts". Only when you entered a VIN, did you become an "owner".

With this new site, management no longer cares if you really own a car or not. When someone posts comments about automatic transmissions or rotating tires or FWD or traction control, well, these are dead give aways.

There are a lot of socially handicapped people on the internet who crave attention. Not naming any names, but we even had one here who would live his life in this imaginary world of the internet. He even told us his lady friend was going to buy him an S2000 just because she liked him, but she had to wait for her next paycheque. 6 months before, he pulled the same deal on the Ferarri forum. Failing this, he actually posted that he had secured his order for an S2000. Well, that was a very long time ago and he's still driving daddy's station wagon. Flakes abound everywhere.
