Default filter cover off in rain?

Well i've had my stock filter cover off for a little while now and now it's starting to rain a bit... would it be ok to leave the cover off in the rain or should i be worried?

No, and it won't be Ok to leave it off in the dry either.

That is of course, unless you don't mind losing extraneous neddies.

When you dispose of them send them over my way, I'm always keen to cash in on other's foolishness.

You'll be fine as long as you don't have a vented hood or anything that would let the water drain into the top of the box. Otherwise, there's really no way the water can get in unless it went up your engine bay and around the edges of the box. Your only concern should be about heat soak and losing a few extra horses b/c you're pulling in hotter air. Nothing major if you're just after the sound.

But, put it back on. It is going to hurt peforamnce and noone like the sputtering of heat soak.

school?!?! i had mine off for a few weeks...but i put it back on after i replaced the air filter. mainly because it's getting damn cold out, and with less than favorable conditions on the way i wont be gunnin' it much at all. i probably will be taking it off again next spring though...i don't care about losing a few hp and it sounds pretty sweet.

That's kind of backwards to what you should be doing to keep HP loss in check. Winter time, the ambient air is much colder and your engine bay doesn't get quite as hot. In the summer time, the engine bay has been measured to get as hot as 70+ degrees C. You lose 1HP for every 3 degrees increase in intake temps. Assuming ambient is at a hot 30 degrees, that's about 12 to 13 HP on a hot day. If you don't mind this in favour of a "cool" sound, then that's your choice. Then don't wonder how come your car "bucks" and "kangaroos" much more than usual in city traffic.

I took mine off because it sounds cool. That and heat soak should not be as much of an issue with this cold weather.
