I made my 70 mile commute yesterday at 75mph and 4000 rpm in 6th ( i think). I cant see myself doing a diff. gear ratio. Driving that road at 5000 rpm would probably be a little noticable in fuel economy and drone if i got an aftermarket exhaust, dont you think?

Can someone link me to a page about theft prevention? Ill try the search feature again, but it has failed for me continuously

75mph in 6th gear with 4.57's will give you 4500rpm. however, if you're concerned about noise, don't bother. the 4.57's tend to whine a bit, depending on how well the install was done. (though the next batch of 4.57's should be quieter)

and the highway fuel economy was barely affected. maybe 1-2mpg less than normal.

wisconsins2k: do you think that the sound of hks hi power is louder than the gear whine to where you wont hear it much? whats the whine sound like? probably hard to describe but... eh? ear piercing whine or tolerable for the most part?

A friend of mine has been talking about his WRX day in and day out about all the DIY mods he is doing for it. Ive seen pictures and they look clean, and fun to do. He has made heat shelds, vents, etc. which nearly replicate expensive parts for a tiny fraction. Is there any information on this site about DIY heatshields, mods, anything? Ive been using the search engine for a couple evenings trying to find something, but cant.

I'm makin a final drive out of toothpicks and papier mache.

Seriously, setting back lash on crown and pinion gears is a skill that requires specialist tools. I've installed an SC, a turbo, and changed my clutch, but I will get help the first time I change crown and pinion.

Have a look in Under The Hood. In the FAQs.

Many of us have done stuff and documented it pretty well.
