Default FINALLY!

dear god ive been on this forum for almost a year now just lookin at shit, learning all i can about the car, getting ideas for what i want to do with my car once i get it, and that day finally came! purchased a 2000 new formula red S2000 yesterday!

so now i am here with my new blank slate (fair upgrade from the civic i had previously), and ive got a few questions before i get started on this thing.

First of all, HIDs: they came with the stock 4300K hids but im wondering what it would take to put in a bulb thats say 6000K or 8000K? do i just buy a DS2 6000k bulb and stick it right in? how does that work? any modifications to the ballasts?

next... springs: first thing ill probably buy is some springs for it because the stock ride hieght is already bugging me and ive had the car for less than 24 hours... what is the preferred spring for a decent drop, nothing too low because my civic scraped EVERYWHERE, and something that i can run with the stock struts...? H&R maybe?

and finally (for now), exhaust: what exhausts do people prefer? i havent looked up much in this category so far at all, but the HKS dual hi-power exhaust looks pretty nice... any opinions? anyone else have a favored exhaust to recommend? single? dual?

thanks a lot guys and wish me luck with my new car!

heres the car:

looks nice man. congrats on the purchase. I also like the way the hks exhaust looks. It sounds great too. Expecially if you throw a test pipe on there with it. Be safe.

For the love of Mary- leave your bulbs alone! The S2000 has one of the most efficient headlight systems out there. Anything rated higher will cause you to lose visiblity... and look cheap.
Welcome to the club officially- I hope you take time to appreciate your car as it was designed before you pull everything apart. You might be surprised at how amazing the car is.

thanks for the words, i think i probably will just leave the bulbs alone then, what about gears? ive been reading up on 4.56 and 4.77 gears etc. where would i purchase these and is the install possible on my own or would it be something i would want to have a shop do? (im assuming the latter of the 2)

Gears are an excellent place to start. In fact, besides going FI, that is pretty much the most effective modification you can make to the car. You can install gears yourself, it isn't that difficult.
I say you should wait at least three months before you start modifying. In that time, maybe take it to the track or autocross it and familiarize yourself with the handling characteristics of the car. I would do this regardless of any experience you may have with FR cars. The S2000 is amazing, but AP1s have a nasty tendency to snap oversteer. Get to know it and fall in love. Take it easy with her and cherish her. No need to try to push her too hard... just yet.
Check out hardtopguy.com- he has gears and a few other goodies. Also, our FS section always has good stuff in it.

Also- you are no longer simply an enthusiast. You can proudly change your title to owner now!

Welcome to the club. I don't see a reason to change the bulbs, but that is just my opinion.
