Default Finally got it last Saturday! One complaint.

I finally picked up my new *RED* baby from the dealer on Saturday. WOW, feels great! Great control, who knew dual exhausts sound this good! and the look WOW, there aren't many of these where I live, catching l@@ks!

The only complaint I have is this, the second gear is "notchy"; I can hear a small clunk as I put it in. All other gears are fine and since I am so paranoid, I always floor the clutch. Oh it seems as if the problem is less if I am aggressively accelerating as I shift into second. Don't know if I can hear the noise less because of the louder engine sound. Sometimes the shift is perfect, no sound. I am a bit confused by this. Any thoughts?

Oh last ?, how do I "fix" the shift knob if it always goes into the upside-down position, the locknut doesn't seem to be doing it's job.

If it makes you feel any better...I have the exact same symptom when shift from first to second. Funny...I also found that when accelerating quickly, I do not get the "clunk".

Get the shift knob aligned where you want it then use a wrench to back the lock nut up to it and snug it up. That will hold it in place.

My 2nd gear is a little notchy until the tranny gets fully warmed up. I notice the tranny always works better when I drive the beejeezus out of it. When I just putt around town the tranny is notchy, but after a good flogging it is nice and smooth.

When the transmission is cold, baby it as you would the engine.

Beyond that, just rev match as often as you can...

Yeah, I get the "notchy" feeling too, when it's cold. After it warms up, however, the shifting becomes a lot smoother...

I'm not too worried about it, because it does improve as it warms up...

You are right on that. My neighbor owns the local Red Line distributing company, and he hooked me up on my Celica, and I put in Red Line MTL in my tranny, and it's a day/night difference in how smooth my shifter feels. Best money you'll spend for you tranny IMO!

Mine was a little 'notchy' when new (probably still is a bit). Don't confuse it with the '2nd gear grind' though. I've found the 'notchiness' has diminished slightly with use over time. My 5th to 6th change is still a little tight after nearly 20 months. Perhaps it's because I don't use it much? I don't know.

Use an adjustable spanner to tighten the locknut directly under the shift knob. Turn it counter-clockwise to tighten.
