Default Finally got a test drive

Okay, so I got to finally test drive an S2000. It was an 06 Suzuka blue. Mileage was pretty much exactly what I was looking for. I got to drive it on the 17th and had all intentions of posting my initial thoughts on it on the 18. However I was admitted back into the hospital because I have a lung that seems to enjoy collapsing. I didn't get out till a week after and hadn't really had time to sit down and compose anything. Actually, I lied. I was in the hospital and wrote out a pretty lengthy story about my adventure with the S2000 for the short while I drove it. While proofreading it, prior to posting it here, I realized that a lot of it was incoherent babbling that was a manifestation of the pain medicine that I was on. I've decided not to post that story.

I don't need to tell anyone how fun it was to drive, or how responsive it is, or how it makes the driver feel one with the car. I'm not going to bore you with all that because as owners you already know this. I did get to rip up and down through the gears though. I wasn't able to have too much fun on the on/off ramps because apparently I didn't get the memo that I was supposed to drive 10 under the suggested speed signs. I'm talking to you Mr. Blazer and Mr. Explorer. I won't lie that I committed some rookie mistakes. I couldn't get the car to start. E-brake was set, car was in neutral but I guess for some reason my mind didn't think it would be necessary to push the clutch pedal in. Oops. I also forgot to unlatch the top before taking it down. Rookie mistake #2. Tsk tsk, in my defense I hadn't driven a convertible since 04. Anyway. I pretty much loved the car except for the blue. I wasn't really diggin the blue on blue. Even though I'm told it will bring out the color in my eyes. Also, the PO was a smoker which I found out upon opening the trunk (we opened the trunk before the cabin). The convertible cover looked to be in pretty good shape but it smelled like smoke. When we opened the cabin I noticed about 5 cigar wrappers on the floor. Weak sauce but at least he had a little bit of class right? And I also didn't like the fact that I almost got sideswiped from some dick in a Cadillac Deville boat just floating across 3 lanes of traffic like the highway was made for him. No turn signal mind you. Had I been in my Accord, I would have been hit because my reaction time wasn't the best. The handling and brakes of the S2000 made up for that. Long story short, I've decided to get one when I can. Anyway, on with the pictures.

Yeah, it's real dirty because it had just got traded in and they hadn't had time to clean it up as of yet.
You can see the salesman cleaning up some leaves.
Driver seat is a little worn on the side bolster.

Ha!! the old spontaneous pneumothorax. Been there done that. I was in the hospital for ten days. They sent me home, collapsed again, back to the hospital for another chest tube. And anyone that has had a chest tube, lets just say not a whole lot of fun. Anyway another ten days hooked to the wall and ALOT of morphine later, they sent me home.

The car looks good. The driver side bolster does get the most wear but that doesn't look to bad just be careful when you get in and out of it. I would have it checked out by a machanic and do a carfax on it. That is just SOP with any used car.

Good luck. And enjoy!

Not everyone finds the S2000 to their liking, but if you are drawn to what it offers, there is no substitute.

Don't rush into picking out a car. Do like Goldilocks, and wait until you find something that is "just right." It'll be worth the wait.

That car isn't an 06. It's a 04 or 05.

That's true. 04 or 05. Wheels and the center console give it away.

Good color choice but why does the place look bolted to the trunk?

Looks great I've always been a fan of Suzuka Blue.

They certainly are fun little things. I can't wait to pull mine out of the garage once the weather gets decent (it was snowing again today. grr..).

Dealer told me 06....

Hmmmm......maybe they just didn't know that much about it as it just got traded in?

Anyway, I would prefer something with the red/black interior. Which will probably be the primary thing I'm looking for aesthetically when I get one. Exterior colour would be secondary.

Oh yes, spontaneous pneumothorax for the loss. First time it collapsed it went down 60-70%. Did the chest tube and morphine IV thing. Let me out after a week or so. Second time it was down about 30% but still slowly deflating. So they stuck a camera in there and looked for "blebs". Didn't find any and they proceeded with some "mechanical pluradiesis". I don't know about the spelling but he basically rubbed my lung/chest cavity raw so it would scar up and hold the lung to the ribcage (as it was explained to me). Another week or so with a chest tube and an epidural this time and I'm on my way. Go back a month later for a follow up, he tells me it's going back down, we look at some x-rays. Son of a gun it is. Chest tube #3 + talc (a powder which is supposed to act like a glue) + epidural #2. Week later I'm out. Here I sit now typing this while under the influence of prescription drugs. I haven't had a weekend where I could go out and do anything since early January. Suckfest.

The plate is bolted to a magnet. The magnet is just stuck to the trunk
