Default Fire Extinguisher - Help on Mounting & Location

Fire Extinguisher - Help on Mounting & Location
Hey all -

Will be attending a track event where mounted fire extinguishers are mandatory. Have never contemplated doing this in the car, but it sounds like a very good idea. Can you provide me some feedback on:

1) What extinguishers to be looking at
2) Where to mount it - must be withing arm's reach.

Car is bone stock on the interior - no bar, etc.

Thank you in advance!!!

I don't think that would look too great out in the open, what about on the floor behind one of the seats?

You're right - it won't look good. But for a day at the track I don't care. I can take it off right after so as not to ruin the asthetic. Don't know if I can fit it behind the seat because both seats are pushed all the way back for me/wife. Chances are, it will have to go in the open cabin somewhere.

EJ, check this out, in Belgium, they are required by law, and this is where they are placed by dealers.

One popular place to put it in is the cross member in front of the passengers seat, (something of which I was looking into) with a custom made bracket. Supposedly, velcro on the back of a small one should hold it in place, but doubt it if it will be allowed at a track day event.

Thanks Fed - that was extremely helpful. Unfortunately, my big ass feet/legs are already crammed enough. I couldn't put it there. I will get a smaller unit and then try to figure out where the heck to put it.

I found a extinguisher that fits in the secret compartment. Not the most convenient, but can be gotten to. I don't now if that area will fly with all organizations.

That would be perfect!! I can definitely mount it firmly in there with velcro and I am sure that it will pass muster.

Would you mind pointing me in the right direction? Where did you get it and how did you mount it in there?

THANKS!

Got the extingusher at Pep Boys, $49.95. Its APC. It fits without the bracket. Drop in no rattle. Good luck. I could be a little off on the price, been about 9 months since I bought it.
