The dealer told me here in s. carolina they are asked to tell the customers to follow the extreme conditions guidelines due to the high heat/humidity we encounter. I guess that means to change at 3,750.... but I may keep mine in a little longer than that (maybe 4,500). At the 1st oil change I plan to fill with castrol gtx because of the higher molybdenum content. I'm not really an expert here, but it seems that this type of thing would be the logical thing to do based on the info I've gotten on this board.

I have 4300 miles on mine and I have put in 2 quarts of oil to top off already.

I plan to change the first oil at 5000 miles

Peter

Honda recommends 7,500 miles or 3,500 miles under severe driving conditions. Living and driving in New Jersey as we do represents "severe" conditions. You should probably change your oil and filter at 3,750 miles. Use and oil like Castrol GTX 10W30. It is not necessary to change your oil before this.

how about the time limit? doesn't oil go bad regardless of how many miles you have? my s2k was produced in november of 2002...i think it said 3,750 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. so i guess i should've changed it in may.

Six months is a good interval.

I'm wondering if I should change too. I've put only 1,650 miles on my new '03 in almost seven months. I decided that I would only drive it on days when there is a 0% chance of rain. Normally this would not be a problem, but this year it has been raining almost every day in Atlanta. I wonder which is worse, having old oil or removing the break-in oil?

just changed out the factory fill at 4,100 miles. the oil was dark (very dark) as dark as any i have ever personally changed. i don't think that it means anything, just noting the color change.

filled up using an inexepensive 10W30 dino oil and a honda filter. she took just under 5 1/4 to fill.

used somewhere near 2 quarts since purchase (new) and haven't had to add any oil for three or four refuels.

be sure to check both sides of the dipstick when you're at the gas station. BIG DIFFERENCE, at least on mine.
