first oil change at what mileage ?
I was going over my owners manual (2003) and it has to sets of maintence schedules.
one is called normal driving and the other called severe conditions. Of course they do not define this.
Normal is scheduled at 7500 and severe at 3750 miles.
My car has about 4100 miles on it. I drive it about 3 to 4 days a week usually on sunny days top down. (Florida).
I checked the oil level, looks good and the oil looks clean.
So should I do the first change now and comprimise the difference. But I dont want to interere with the engine break in period, (not sure if they use special oil for this or not..)

Your gonna get alot of varying opinions on this one. Here's mine.....
Change the oil early for the first time, around 1000 miles. This flushes any bits and shavings from the "break-in period". There is no special break-in oil. Stick with regular dino oil (not synthetic) until 10k miles, then switch to a synthetic.
As far as maintenance schedule, there are some factors to help you fit a category.
- are your drives typically less than 10 miles?
- drive in 90deg+ weather?
- lots of stop-n-go traffic?
theres more, but I don't think freezing conditions, mountain driving, or muddy de-iced roads apply here.
Hope that helps!

and here is the contrary postion...
the oil in your car is a break-in oil and according to some should be left in longer to allow the rings and other parts to seat. probably not a big deal if you dont, but you might burn more oil over the life of the car.
the time to change oil is not just based on mileage, but also on time...
as hockey indicated, normal and severe driving conditions are defined in the shop manual by defining severe as:
less than 5 miles per trip
extremely hot weather (over 90)
extensive idling or long periods of stop and go
trailer towing, driving in mountains (dont know about you, but mine didnt come with a trailer hitch!!)
muddy, dusty, or de-iced roads.
there are lots of threads about this and none of them come to a real conclusion- so you just do what makes sense to you!!

I believe the Honda engineers who designed and built the engine would know more aboutas when the oil should be changed in a new engine than any of us ever can hope to.
I do know that the oil put in the engine at the factory IS a break-in oil and that it does help to keep it in the engine as it is supposed to help seat the rings over several months and a few thousand miles and that this oil is important in smoothing out the "ridges" or any microscopic irregularities rather than breaking those off. If you change this oil too soon, you may then actually BE driving around with microscopic particles that may harm your engine in the exact manner that you hope to avoid by draining out the break-in oil too soon. Just my two cents.
