Default First problem with S2000 at 1900 miles!!

Well, I was washing the car yesterday and as I got to the passenger side I noticed an EMPTY HOLE where the lock mechanism used to be!!! The damn lock mechanism fell INSIDE the door!!! I can hear it rattling around when I close the door. Anyone ever heard of anything like this before?? Damn weird.

That's terrible! Maybe a peep-hole in your home's front door....but not the car, that's unacceptable!

Maybe someone tried to break into your car and popped the lock mechanism?

That's what I thought at first but it just doesn't seem like how somebody would try to break into a convertible! That, and there was no other signs of damage, scratches or nicks around the lock/handle or anything.

Perhaps I'm just being naive, but I just don't think there is a large international auto theft ring in Rochester, NY. Especially operating in the places I go (well populated, public places). No, I think this was just a manufacturing glitch.

Well, there might not be. If I took a flat head screwdriver, placed the tip in the key slot and pounded the handle with a mallet. Just take it back to the dealer, only one way to find out take a look at it. I've never heard of a lock mechanism falling out on their own.

I had the trunk lock mechanism punched out years ago on a previous car...they stole my stereo equipment. I say a theft attempt is the most likely reason....If it fell into the door, when you get it out you will know.

The lock mechanism is held in place by a very robust piece of metal securely bolted at several locations to the door frame. If the cylinder fell out on its own, there is more loose in your door! I suggest that you have the dealer check it out - if it's simply poor assembly, it should be easy to put right.
