First test drive!
I had the opportunity to drive a s2000, 2001 yesterday evening.....awesome ride!! Now the reality...I have the option of purchasing a new 2001 at invoice, verses a new 2002 at MSRP......or a "bit under" according to the dealer....One stipulation is a commitment before the year end... Can't understand the rush, since the auto will be an order, and delivery date is not expected until March or April 02'. Another thought is all this talk of the clutch and tranny problems on the 2001 models..and how they have been resolved on the 2002 models.....would it not be to my advantage to take the 2001 at invoice, save myself close to three grand and have the upgrade to the "problem" clutch and tranny? It is to my understanding that other than the glass rear window...and a few other cometic refinements on the 2002, not much else has changed between the model years. My real choice is a 2002, Sebring silver/black interior........any leads on any 2001's (new) at invoice, or any dealers willing to do better on a 2002 BETTER than "a bit under" MSRP as suggested by the dealer. I am from the western NY area...and willing to travel for the best deal....Can be reached additionally at General1952@aol.com Thanks for any help, this site has really been helpful with the valuable information contained within...... Welcome to the board.
First of all, I would recommend going with the '02. Sure it'll cost couple grand more, but the '02 will also worth more come trade-in / sale.
If you're willing to come as far as Boston, MA, I can look up the pricing for you. I am pretty darn sure I can find you a silver/black at at least $500 below msrp, if not more. I am also pretty sure I can find one where you don't have to wait 3 - 4 months for.
Let me know if you like my help. Good luck!

Tea-man,
I was in the same situation as you. I could have gotten the 01 Silverstone at invoice at Hillside Honda or an 02 anywhere for MSRP or a little under. After weighing pros and cons I decided to get the 02, especially after I saw the Sebring Silver in person. Since there are so many dealers to choose from in the NYC area I was able to get the 02 for $700 under MSRP at Baron Honda in Patchogue. In addition, I got a great deal on the hardtop, front and rear spoilers as well. I just spoke to my sales guy to inquire about the hardtop yesterday and he told me that they're getting in two silver/blacks in the next few weeks. Look them up and give them a call if you're interested.

If you can get a 01 at a good price then you would be crazy not to go for it. I got mine $500 above dealer cost....Thats $3500CDN below MSRP....
The decision is clear
BTW, the clutch problem has not been permanently fixed on 02's, it still exists...
2002 models just have "smoother shifting". Whatever that means..
