I rarely get into vtec when driving to work. I feel like a wanker if I wind out the motor in rush hour traffic.
this.
It's as if Clark Kent were to show off his blue spandex every 5 minutes instead of when he actually had to

I'm worried that if I push the car hard every day it will somehow hurt the longevity of the engine, trans, diff, etc. Just out of curiosity, how long have you had yours? How many miles?
Ive had two S2ks and always have hit vtec ..whenever I want with no issues what so ever , this car is tough and can take whatever u can give ...vtec does not hurt your car ...its made to do it , so go hit vtec as much as you heart desires

I don't think there has been a single day of ownership where mine hasn't seen VTEC. The motor is a marvel of engineering accomplishment, it can take it.
btw ive put over 140k on two S2000s ...and never once had an issue with VTEC ....most days when I drive I just thank Mr Honda on a regular bias ...
The S is one of kind , you'll never drive anything like it ...its special in MANY WAYS , SPEND THE TIME TO LEARN HOW TO DRIVE BEFORE U PUSH IT , CAUSE IT CAN BITE. When mastered and driven well its pure driving bliss

I purchased my AP1 used @ 80,000 miles and drove it RELENTLESSLY hard from 80k to 130k with no issues, even had the factory OEM clutch still in use! Factory timing chain tensioner, factory coil packs, factory water pump and starter...etc etc etc. I genuinely believe these engines and cars in general are built to last even under extreme usage so long as the maintenance is properly performed at the correct interval. My AP2 was purchsed with 39k on it and it currently has 68k on the clock(rolled it over last night!) and the F22 sees redline every single day more than once! The car is meant to be driven and driven hard, with proper maintenance I doubt you'll be causing an exorbitant amount of undue internal damage to the car. So long as you shift smoothly and don't allow too much shock to be transferred to the driveline. There's a member on here with over 300k on his AP1 and still climbing!!! Keep the fluids topped up and changed frequently and do not ignore any maintenance and I think any S2000 with the proper owner can do over 200k even if driven hard for many years of its life.
Btw...your avatar is my favorite on the site. Such an awesome photo.
