this.

It's as if Clark Kent were to show off his blue spandex every 5 minutes instead of when he actually had to

Same problem here but also the damn N1 is too loud to do it in town and I am too poor to replace it

I don't think there has been a single day of ownership where mine hasn't seen VTEC. The motor is a marvel of engineering accomplishment, it can take it.

I'm worried that if I push the car hard every day it will somehow hurt the longevity of the engine, trans, diff, etc. Just out of curiosity, how long have you had yours? How many miles?

I purchased my AP1 used @ 80,000 miles and drove it RELENTLESSLY hard from 80k to 130k with no issues, even had the factory OEM clutch still in use! Factory timing chain tensioner, factory coil packs, factory water pump and starter...etc etc etc. I genuinely believe these engines and cars in general are built to last even under extreme usage so long as the maintenance is properly performed at the correct interval. My AP2 was purchsed with 39k on it and it currently has 68k on the clock(rolled it over last night!) and the F22 sees redline every single day more than once! The car is meant to be driven and driven hard, with proper maintenance I doubt you'll be causing an exorbitant amount of undue internal damage to the car. So long as you shift smoothly and don't allow too much shock to be transferred to the driveline. There's a member on here with over 300k on his AP1 and still climbing!!! Keep the fluids topped up and changed frequently and do not ignore any maintenance and I think any S2000 with the proper owner can do over 200k even if driven hard for many years of its life.

btw ive put over 140k on two S2000s ...and never once had an issue with VTEC ....most days when I drive I just thank Mr Honda on a regular bias ... The S is one of kind , you'll never drive anything like it ...its special in MANY WAYS , SPEND THE TIME TO LEARN HOW TO DRIVE BEFORE U PUSH IT , CAUSE IT CAN BITE. When mastered and driven well its pure driving bliss

Great to hear! I've only had my AP2 for about a month now - an '04 I managed to find with just 27k miles. First thing I did was change the oil. Paid the extra for Royal Purple, and plan on changing every 5k miles. I've also bought Amsoil trans and diff fluid but haven't had the time to change them yet. Getting some second gear grind when she's cold so I know the trans fluid probably hasn't been changed in a while. It's just painful but it's not nearly as bad if I shift slowly, and it's only until the car's warmed up. Hoping to find the time this weekend. As far as shocking the drivetrain I never dump the clutch, and I always rev-match on downshifts. Seems like I've got all the bases covered. Thanks for all the info. I feel much better about pushing her a bit now.

Btw...your avatar is my favorite on the site. Such an awesome photo.

It's definitely a very special car, and I'm putting in the time to learn how to drive it. I'll go on some fun runs through some twisty back roads around where I live, but am very cautious not to push it that hard in the twisties. I'm gonna go to a few autocross events over the next couple months to learn a bit more about how the car reacts before I even think about pushing it a bit. I spent a decent bit of time autocrossing my Integra GS-R, but the S is in an entirely different league, especially with RWD. I have a lot of respect for this car, and know that it's limits are greater than my abilities right now. The fun part will be putting in the time to raise my abilities and master it.
