Default First time buyer- AP1 / AP2 ?

Hello folks,

Having come off the lexus forums after owning a beautiful Lexus Is200 Sport, I now join the S2k forums with no car!

Im deciding what to buy. Evo, Skyline, Rx7, M3, 6 series or..... s2k! My heart is set on the s2k though so im 99% sure I want one.

I need to know something though- I been looking at 2004 models onwards as I read that these are AP2 and somewhat better in terms of looks and handling. However, a s2k owner told me the other day that there is no difference in european versions and this only applies to U.S models.

Can someone clarify what the difference is pre 2004 and post 2004 so I know what to look for?

Thanks

Fwiw, the FAQ linked doesn't really spell out the differences you'll see in the UK. 04 on, you have the AP2 chassis and upgraded transmission, but still have the F20C engine. If I were you in the UK, I'd go for an 04 or newer since you get the same engine regardless. The best rule imo is always buy the newest you can afford.

Also, you're unlikely to notice much of a difference between the two unless you've spent a fair bit of time in one or the other.

And finally, you're better off asking your question in the UK-specific forum. They know UK specification S2000s better than us Yanks.

The difference in "looks" between AP1 and AP2 is *very* subjective. I'm definitely a bigger fan of the AP1 looks, but YMMV. I think most people prefer the AP2 appearance.

The suspension changes were not added to make the car handle "better", but "safer".
