Default First time at the drag strip

...it's not a drag car, I get it.

But a group of friends and I decided to hit up the drag strip. I was the only S2000 out of the group. Now I've been driving manual for 10+ years, but I've only had the S for about a month (bought an 04 used). It's bone stock. First 3 passes down the track, I could NOT stop bogging. I tried starting from around 4K rpms, and I would bog down right after I took off, or after I shifted to 2nd. I ran a 15.2, 14.8, and 14.6 on those runs.

At first I was afraid to drive it hard, as I just got the car... you know how it is with a car that is new to you. Then I figured what the heck... let me try actually launching the car once. I only plan on drag racing once or twice a year anyway. Revved it up to about 6200 rpms and let it rip. Pulled a 2.13 60' and a 14.2 quartermile! I as surprised and pretty happy, considering this was the fourth time I'd EVER gone down the drag strip in the car. Did a couple more passes and managed a slightly better 60' (2.12) but no better ET, even though I was consistently under 14.5.

Anyway, had a good time. For the 3 people on this board that drag race, I thought I'd share.

Now I'd MUCH prefer to go road racing... but a lot more is involved with that, including a much higher fee. Wish I'd known about the Fall Colors thing earlier, but I'll be checking to maybe hit up another run and meet some people later!

Does your name stand for Virginia Beach? If so, which strip?

You were one of the 3 people I was talking about that might actually care about this thread. I don't post much, but I read a lot, and I at least gather that you're the resident 1/4 mile racer. Drag racing isn't something I'll do a lot of... but I definitely think it is fun!

Oh, and for the guy that asked about what strip, it was VMP in Petersburg, VA.

Seeing as you have the AP2, have you disabled the Clutch delay? This might have been part of the bogging. Clutch delay prevents high RPM launches by slipping the clutch to save the differential.
