A fix for Cabin Turbulence, Roll Hoop Plexiglass. Need Opinions
Hi everyone, as I promised some people
, I will be releasing some essential s2k mods over the next few weeks. I am also in the process of becoming a board sponsor, just have to work out a deal with Cthree. Thanks Cthree...
Anyways, here it is, the wind stopper we all need, it is made out of Plexiglass and will be available for sale starting on the October 20th meet...
Putting it on, wind is reduced to almost nothing below 30 MPH, after 30 MPH there is a slight wind and at 60 mph or so we have more wind... I don't know how to describe it very well, just think that you will get the wind you would have gotten 20 mph earlier or so. Thus at 60 mph, you have wind that you would have had at 40 mph and so on... BTW, this wasn't scientific testing, just my head dyno.
BTW, I have the stock wind deflector, slap on Ricks center deflector with this and you can kiss wind goodbye forever.
The poll is concerning the method of holding it in, there are two methods that I came up with after trying many others:
Method 1:

Method 2:

Both from the rear:

I am unsure as to which is nicer, almost loosing sleep over it
. The advantages of the 2nd method is that it is easily removable and re-installed after cleaning as can be seen by the 3 pics below... Both methods are completely reversible and can be restored to stock in less then 5 mins.

Also, method 2 is much easier to install without frustrations as it doesn't have to deal with the curvature of the roll hoops which also reduces the chances of customer error and it coming off.
They will be offered for $54.95 US including shipping by UPS ground.
What do you guys think, method 1 or method 2?
Please take functionality into account as well and not just looks.
Thank you all.

$55 seems a bit steep for 2 pieces of cut plexiglass. Even with shipping included.

As for price, everything is expensive for the s2k as # of units sold are small.
The extensions for the center wind deflector sell for $100+ plus shipping.
It takes time, money and dedication to invent a piece, produce a piece, test a piece, sponsor the board, package an item, ship an item, answer customer questions...
I believe it is priced right, for group buys, it will have a special price of course.
It will be hard to make it much cheaper and still make it worth anyones time.
I'd get one of these that I could put on when my fiance gets into the car. Whenever the top is down the windows have to be up for her...women, hair and a convertible don't mix.
For the ease of installation and removal I'd go with #2.

BTW, I forgot to mention, same as the center wind deflector, the windows have to be up for the mod to be 100% effective, since when you put the windows up, you create a better "seal" of the cabin area...
I think this is a great idea. Is there no better way to fit the glass into the loops, from an appearance standpoint that is. There must be some sort of rubber beading/channeling to hold the glass in place I would have thought. I think anyone who finds the price excessive should try cutting the stuff themselves.

I have spent a lot of time ane effort trying out or thinking of different methods, these seem to be the best looks wise and are by far the easiest to install and remove. They are also VERY sturdy, they will not come off even if you push fairly hard at them so no chance of it falling off.
Part of the problem in finding other ways is that inside the roll hoop is very curvy and makes finding a method not as simple as it seems...

Sev....voted for #2. But I think I would still like to see something a little cleaner looking. Maybe rubber stops similar to Rick's that one could put on both sides of the plexiglass. Just a thought.
