Default Flat Tire

Is Instaflat or any instant flat tire temporary fix worth it?

I guess it would be; However, from a lot of what I have read here, it totally screws up the inside of your wheel with gunk.

Really? I was thinking about getting this and taking my spare out, perhaps not!

I keep a can of this in my cars for "extreme" emergencies where my wife or I don't feel it's safe to use the spare tire. (Bad road surface, late at night in an "insecure" part of town, etc.)

well if the tire is flat it has to come off so it'll be cleaned then. Better to be safe and carry it.

I've talked with several tire repair specialists that won't touch an "Instaflat" repaired tire with a ten foot pole. It makes it a lot harder to perform a permanent repair, if it is possible at all. Also, the shop formen at local Honda and Lexus dealerships reported to me that they have seen several cases of unfixable wheel imbalances caused by liquid tire repair products. Also note that some types of tire damage are not repairable by these products (like damage from a large, penetrating object).

ditto opinions about instaflat and the like, CoralDoc.

When I worked at a tire shop, and came across tires that have been instaflatted, well, when you take it off, it gets all over the place. Its *EXTREMELY* sticky and also flammable as well. It just doesn't come off of anything. And regarding the balancing.. yeup, it will be off.

Unless you have to... avoid it. Or else, with this car you'll just end up buying a whole new tire. Of course, it depends how in an ermegency you are, what you are wearing and where you are going of course. Being in a three piece suit going to an important dinner meeting (you won't find me in a suit anytime soon)... then I can understand. Otherwise.. notta.

Nothing wrong with getting it and having it. It doesn't take up much room when placed inside the spare tire space. It's just "extra" insurance. Just be judicious about using it. However, I wouldn't have it for the sole purpose of being able to dispense with the spare.
