Default flat tire during road trip

what are you supposed to do if you're in the middle of nowhere and get a flat? how long can the spare run for? are you supposed to buy any tire that will fit at the nearest shop?

Assuming you had a flat tyre on the rear, you're suppose to remove the front tyre and put it on the back and put the spare on the front. You're not suppose to run more then 50mph on the spare and no longer then 50 miles. But, I do know from personal experience that that is just a suggestion.

Made a nopi nationals trip a while back with a friend who had a VW Corrado. We had a flat 10 miles into the 600 mile trip. We just put the spare on and kept treking. Raced a few cars in and around atlanta and i do believe we also did a few very high speed runs too. Not one problem ... Having said that, I don't think that was the smartest thing I've ever done.

Not too hard really, just takes some time. Jack up front, remove tire, install spare, lower front, jack up rear, remove flat rear tire, install front.

I'm an idiot...I was thinking ok take back tire off (the flat) then put front on the rear..but the jack is holding the rear up so you can't lift the front....

If you can afford a tire that will fit, buy one that will match the other rear and then when you get home, buy the true matching tire if the one you got wasn't the exact same brand.

he real problem will come when the new tire has full/ new tread and you old tire is really worn. Now the two circumferences are different and you will have a car that moves from left to right when you shift. You can try to counter-act that by using different tire pressures, but the best thing to do if you have one really worn tire and one new one is to get two new ones at the same time.

Just buy a tire repair kit. Plug the old tire, reinflate, and reinstall. Then all the tires will still have the same wear. No help if it is a long cut or sidewall puncture.

You are supposed to be speed limited to 100ish with a plugged tire. But it will do a lot higher than that and never come unplugged.

Same thing happened to me on New Years day off of exit 8 in SC on 95N. I was doing almost 90mph and didn't notice, I'm glad I stopped when I did though, but I thought my tire gauge thing was broken because the tire looked fine, my sidewalls are so strong they held up the car and made it look inflated.

I drove to the nearest walmart they patched it. Took 3hrs with AAA to find the place, get them to realize they COULD fix it and get back on the road. $9.50.

I got from St Augustine to where it happened in 3hrs and to my part of Virginia in 7more. Great time.
