Default flip

since our cars are open top without an B or C pillar geometricly are cars are weaker and alot less sitffer compared to closed cars. i was just curious since my dad is up in arms about this. does our cars have a tendency to flip? has it ever fliped? i know people drift them

but say a rainy night someone cuts me off i make a defensive move just curious if the car will flip. (stock car)

thanks=)

and if it does anyway or best way to prevent this? might be able to get some mods free of charge from my dad if i can prove it'll help control the tendency to flip

With such a low center of gravity, I can't see our cars being easily flippable. The car will spin out and do a 360 before it will flip. The only way I see it flipping is if you go off the road, down into a ditch or dig it into the grass at high speed. You can flip any car. I'd much rather flip an S2000 than an SUV. Those plastic hoops behind your seats have steel rollbars in them. If your short, you don't have much to worry about.

The car holds up well to rollovers.

But if your dad is worried about your driving skills... and this is your first RWD... and you've only had your license for 2 years....

You're at pretty high risk for spinning out if you're not conservative.

If it's a rainy night, and someone cuts you off, and you're overzealous with the "defensive maneuver," you're going to be in a ditch.

The S2000 has a very stiff chassis. It was designed to be a roadster from day one so a lot was done to keep the body ridgid. No b/c pillar needed. The frame around the windshield is VERY solid along with the roll hoops the car should do just fine in a roll over. I've seen a picture around somewhere of an S on it's top and the hoops and winshield frame didn't buckel. In the same breath, i've seen many cars who rolled on it's roof and those B/C pillars pancaked........as other guys stated, this car will spin on you pretty easy but rolling it isn't so easy.

since the car is wider than it is tall I doubt a standing flip would be able to occur

you could always be like Richard Hammond and try the ole' "scandinavian flick"

Mine flips over once or twice a week. I usually get 3 or 4 friends to help me flip it back over.

If your dad wants, he can invest in a roll cage for you
What is peace of mind worth anyway
