Default FlowMaster Exhaust?

Thursday morning as I was getting in my car in the Albertsons' parking lot a Camaro driver walked over to complement me on it. His first question was "Can you fit in it?" He thought it was about the size of a Miata.

Then he asked how much horsepower it put out. "240."

Finally, he suggested that a FlowMaster exhaust and some sort of after-market air intake (I forget the brand) would boost that number to 300.

Opinions?

Actually, very good Camaro advice. Not much help for the S2K, though.

Think 3hp if the planets are in the proper alignment. You might lose some low end though.

A lot more time and thought must be put into the S2000 mods vs. camaro or mustang mods. Camaros will open up pretty well to intakes and exhausts. Not all of ours will.

He was carrying dry-cleaning. Fumes, perhaps?

His advice would be good if you were running a voracious V8. Very respectable increases in horsepower by doing the simple I/H/E modifications on American muscle. I've saw a TV program where they took a $9,000 '94 Camaro, dynoed at ~225 hp and did those modifications, plus a few more:

- K&N cold air system
- tubular headers
- cat-back exhaust
- 26lb. injectors
- adjustable fuel pressure regulator
- throttle body

Their result was 278 HP at the rear wheels. Try doing that in a Honda! Oh, and the best part? They only spent $1500.

Of course, you trade off a lot of things when you buy a Camaro, but they're by far the best bang for the buck if raw HP is what you're after. Most of us obviously aren't.
