Default Flywheel and Clutch Questions!

Hey, i could use some insight and advice on a clutch and flywheel setup.

Is safe and worth buying a Lightened OEM flywheel? It was lightened 2 pounds by a machine shop. I want a affordable flywheel, but not sure on buying the Fidanza one.

Also, is there anything bad with buying a good conditioned Used Clutch Kit ? There's a used ACT PP forsale and I was thinking about combining it with a new OEM disc.

Or I could forget about the flywheel and buy a good new clutch kit. If buying a flywheel doesn't help that much.

Personally I would never trust a used clutch or flywheel. These are vital parts of your drivetrain, not to mention a expensive royal pain in the ass to replace. Just go with new flywheel/clutch combo for peace of mind.

I wouldn't trust a used clutch or flywheel.. no idea how the previous owner drove it...

I picked up the Competition Clutch pressure plate and flywheel from Ganley... it took me some time to get used to, but I've had no regrets (especially when I go FI and need it)... pm sanmarinocpe .. i got it from him.. they are a vendor on s2ki.

Agreed, for all the money it costs in labor to change them, its probably not worth the savings. Contact hardtopguy.com (Jeff) he is an enthusiast, an s2ki sponsor, affiliated with Honda, the guy who does the raffle at the big s2000 meets at the dragon, and an all around nice guy. I got his clutch kit (ACT pressure plate with a OEM clutch disc and a good flywheel) and its awesome.

You know your getting good products when you buy from him, and you get his awesome support and advice as well.

Well worth it, hardtopguy.com

thanks for the advice.

I do have another question about flywheels, I'm deciding between reasonably price flywheels. The fidanza or CC one.

I like the CC one because it's $340 bucks, but the weight of it makes me wonder if i'll gain anything. 11 pound flywheel vs. 14 pound OEM.

The fidanza is the cheapest but i'm not sold on a 2 piece aluminum one, and not sure if the HTG setup will work with it. Does anyone have the fidanza and a s/c or turbo?

I wish comptech was still in business....

Talk to hardtopguy, he sells a lightened flywheel (he used to do Comptech, now I believe its ACT) but if you want to go with CC or somethign different, he will talk to you about it and won't mind if you mix and match withsome of his stuff. He's an awesome guy, tell him Shawn with the carbon black s2k sent you

I really like my 9lb Comptech flywheel. (Have SPEC PP and OEM FD as well.) The other option, back when I got mine, was to go with Spoon - their flywheel was about the same weight I think?. I don't think 11lbs is enough of a drop to go through the expense, IMO.

Hardtopguy sells a complete clutch package for $675.

ACT FW and PP, OEM FD and bearing.

Yeah, i read that. And i think it's missleading, because $675 price is without Flywheel...and $1075 with flywheel. If it was $675 (it might be...i dunno) i will buy it now!

Also, with all the negative talk about Aluminum flywheels, I read that the ACT flywheel is Alum. too. So that would it in the same boat as the Fidanza for Alum. vs. steel arguements. Am i right?

I don't know if 11 pound flywheel is enough of a hassle either. damn you comptech!

Doh! You're right, didn't notice that part. Sorry.

I don't know about the ACT flywheel. There's the Spoon 9lb flywheel, but it's nearly $500.

Oh, and for whatever it's worth, the Comptech website is still up. There was talk that somebody bought the company - who knows, there still might be CT flywheels you can buy!
