Possible 2018 S2000 Thoughts?
Hey Everyone,
I have been searching the forum for thoughts on the potential new S2000. I read the rumor on the Car and Driver blog that says the S2000 might be released in 2018 to coincide with Honda's 70th anniversary. The rumor says that they might use the Civic Type R 2.0L Turbo engine in it. Any thoughts?

They should make it a mid engine V8 with 4 wheel drive, 600 HP, and 45 miles to gallon with all the Google and Apple tech, with a 9 speed tranny, 22 inch wheels, dry sump, ceramic brakes, drive by smell, just say pizza and it sniffs one out for you, all under $35K.

Sounds good to me.
Frankly I'd prefer Honda didn't bastardize the S2000 name and hope they pick another for whatever is in store.
We're getting flooded with "roadsters" and pretty much any one who wants one already has one. Does anyone but Fiat (which has a stellar sales reputation and dealer network) really think a Fiat-branded Miata will sell many cars? At least they didn't call it an Alfa.

I could really care less at this point, I dont see it being better then the one I got, nor could i justify spending the money to have one, even if it was marginally better out of the box then a 16 year old stock S2k. Its going to take something miraculous from Honda to take what they did 16 years ago and do it again today with all the gov and epa regulations, cost/performance and all the electronic bells and whistles/driving aids etc we have to be subjected to in new cars today, wile energizing a whole new generation of enthusiast, wile selling the current tuners to justify trading in their originals to get one. They have extremely big shoes to fill, and ive seen nothing from Honda since that would indicate they have the ability or desire to reproduce this car, at least with doing it justice. And im ok with that as mentioned.

I wouldn't mind if Honda took a page out of Apple's playbook:
"Hey, we have a new sports car. Here are the specs. Dealers can start placing orders next week. The only factory options are colors. There are various accessories available. Arrival would be about a month after ordering."
I would be sad if Honda took a page out of Honda's playbook:
Late 2016 - New sports car design study with over-the-top styling shown at an auto show. No interior, no performance specs.
Mid 2017 - Sports car concept shown at an auto show with slightly different exterior and crazy all-OLED dash.
Early 2018 - Superbowl commercial featuring same concept car with CGI track footage.
Late 2018 - New sports car with production-like styling and interior shown with claimed "4-cylinder turbo" power plant. No specs.
Early 2019 - New sports car specs released - 1.6 liter turbo-4 with 205 hp, 3050 lbs.
Late 2019 - Press release stating new sports car production has begun.
Mid 2020 - New sports car arrives at dealers, $35k MSRP.

I would not hold my breath, Honda makes great cars, industry standard examples...but it has lost it's mojo for sports cars imho. They could and they should build another S2000 and what we get are fwd civics and accords with sporting pretensions and suvs and a pick up.

Very skeptical so say the least, and 2018 isn't even far off. In any case, I'm sure it would be out of my price range anyways, the reasonable used cost is what got me into the car in the first place. If I could afford something good new, the Camaro SS would be a front runner, maybe the next 1LE or equivalent when it comes out. In reality, I'll likely be keeping my s2000 for a while.
