I called Torsen today to see what they think of why my diff may have broke. I explained that it was the pinion gear. THe Tech stated to me that Torsen doesnt make the gear set. Only the LSD. The LSD's are then shipped to MAZDA ( yep you heard right) and Mazda installs the gearset's, bearings, and they make the axles too. So i wonder if mazda is not making these rear ends correctly to keep the hype up on their own roadsters..or if they are just not making them right by accident. See ..i knew honda couldnt make a RWD car..hehe. I thought everyone would like this news.

the NSX doesnt use a driveshaft. its a mid engine car so the setup is the same as a fwd car. See since the engine is behind the car..the axles come out on each side..just like it would if you were driving a fwd car. axle come straight out the sides to the wheels.

....are you sure the person you talked to at Torsen knew the difference between an S2000 and an MX-5?

Just because it's a Torsen type doesn't mean it has to be manufactured by Torsen,....... does it?

Torsen said they make the LSD for our car. Then they ship them to mazda where mazda assembles the LSD with the gearset, bearings, and axles. Thats what he said. Now i see why these diff's are braking. I just hope that the torsen we use is the same as the one's that mazda assembles for their own cars. Because the miata only makes 125ft/lbs of torque compared to our 153.

Des,

Believe me..I double checked what he told me to make sure he heard me correctly. And he told me again.

I'd really like to hear that backed up.

G1S2k - I am not trying to dispute what you heard....I just have a tough time believing it is right

I hope it's not.....because then essentially Ford is involved in the production of the car.

.....that would explain why they are breaking

From what I have read from Honda, this is simply not true... Honda basically said they had them manufactured by someone else. Theoretically that could mean Mazda, but even so I doubt it's the same unit as a Miata. However, I have heard that our diff's are NOT actualy Torsens, just torsen-type differentials made by someone else... Just simply can't believe this without proof.
