Default free horsepower

has anyone considering experimenting and cutting off one of the stock exhausts? they weigh quite a bit or would the air restriction outweigh any benefit? the sound of the exhaust would be louder too.

i think it's strictly a looks thing....i like the look of the two pipes but the one pipe is better for performance and weight savings

street engines, and even racing engines (to a certain extent) require backpressure, this would eliminate backpressure and actually decrease power.

just doesn't work, sorry man.

I've had a flange welded in right before it goes off to 2 pipes. When I go out to the track I just drop the two mufflers. I have noticed a big difference without the mufflers. When I take the mufflers off I drive for about an hour so the ECU notices the change, and it feels so much better! My mph is good in the 1/4 at 100. I also have a single Apexi N1 Turbo Muffler that I bolt up to the stock piping, but sometime I just like the quiet. I will be on the dyno Thursday to see the numbers with no mufflers vs. with the mufflers.

Chopping one side off is damn stupid, why the hell would anyone want to ruin such a nice exhaust system? Just get an N1 spec exhaust if you just want one outlet and yes it does save alot on weight because the OEM does weight quite heavy and there is also definitely positive horsepower gains especially at high ends.

As for weight, there are some lighter exhaust systems out there that weigh less than the stock exhaust with one muffler taken off.

And there are a couple of aftermarket ones with just 1 outlet/muffler.
