Default Free Tranny or keep old one with popping gear

My 900 mile S2000 '04 consistently (about once every ten or fiveteen downshifts) pops out of 2nd gear on deceleration. No loud pop or bang, just slips out. I have had no problem with popping out of 1st or any other tranny problem. Took it to the dealer and they want to follow the bulletin and replace the tranny (1st and 2nd gears) under warrenty. Do you all think it is worth it to chance a new tranny (for free) or should I learn to live with a popping 2nd gear?

From what I read on this forum, there is a chance I could get worse problems with the rebuilt. On the other hand, I'd like the car to work like it should.

Does a rebuilt tranny affect long term health of the car or even resale?

Thanks for the thoughts!

I would get it fixed, you're driving a vehicle that could potentially get you into an accident or worse. If the tranny is rebuilt by Honda, I don't think it'll cause any significant loss in resale. It could bother some but not all. At least you can tell them Honda rebuilt it, not Maaco.

Get it fixed.

It won't cause any issue with resale. Not fixing it would cause an issue the resale value!

Um I don't think this is a hard decision at all, hmmm lets see drive a broken car around that you paid $30,000 for or get it fixed for free....just get it fixed. Be happy that they're willing to do it for free for you.

I agree. I would definitly get it fixed. If you have another problem with the new tranny get it fixxed again and then start looking at your states lemon laws.

Are they allowed to give you a rebuilt tranny? Wouldn't they have to replace it with a new one?

No offense but I can not even believe someone would have to ask this question.

OTOH, considering it's a "highstrung exotic sports car" and therefore should be given some slack when it doesn't function properly, maybe you should just let it go....

You almost get a Darwim Award for that question.

Hey Guys,

I was not trying to insult your intelligence, just like you shouldn't want to insult mine. I was just trying to elicit all sides of an issue that seems to be a big one with the S2000, gears that don't behave.

I hope that this forum is not populated by those who believe they have to be politically correct to ask or answer a question, one that even seems a bit obvious or even downright nieve.

If your goal is to insure that people don't ask questions you deem to be stupid, then by all means..do whatever you want to flame them. If your goal is to help honest people asking honest questions, then swallow your ego and ease up on the testosterone, and remember the golden rule. We have enough politicians and demigods in this world who love to break people's "balls" without populating a "help" site with a bunch of gunslingers.

By the way, for all of you who truly tried to help with a measured response..my upmost thanks.
