Friday the 13th and car damage (long)
Tox, that is certainly an unfortunate situation. I think either course of action is acceptable though...you did the compassionate thing, which I certainly commend you for. On the other hand, you are going to be out $250...and I wouldn't have thought any less if you had asked the lady for insurance information. Just my 2 cents.

An update to the boxer saga:
We've now been to the State Farm claims adjuster and the body shop. State Farm estimated the tab to paint the fender, replace and paint the front bumper cover, and replace the wheel well liner at $878. It's covered under our comprehensive, which means we'll pay only $100 of it.
The body shop (which specializes in Hondas and is well-regarded here) says that will more than cover it. They seem really enthusiastic to be working on an S2K, so I'm hopeful we'll get their best work. Our appointment to have it done is in two weeks. I'll let you know the work looks when we get it back.

It was cause of a dog that we have our S2K. A black lab literally ran into the side of my wife's RX7, (BIG dent), she swerved, spun out, hit the guard rail, and into a ditch. She was fine (except for being shaken up), the Lab trotted away, and the RX7 was permanently retired. Looking for a replacement took us to a Mazda/Honda dealer, which resulted in a first place spot on the S2K list. This was June, 1998. The rest is history.
Yes, Welcome back Tox. I know EXACTLY how you feel. My 2nd accident in the S2K happened when an older gentlemen in a K-car (yuk!) didn't see me coming the other way and just turned left right into the front driver side of the car. Considering the car had only gotten out of the shop two weeks prior to that from the first idiot that hit it I wasn't too happy. So I limp my car to the side of the road, get out, and am glaring over at the guys car which is now a ways away from me. He's not getting out so I move in closer. It's then that I notice he's pretty bloody. Turns out his air bag had deployed. I felt really bad since my first reaction had been one of anger and not compassion. I was still upset about my car but it did put a different perspective on the situation.
Good luck with your car.
Good luck with your car.
Specifically request that they do NOT paint over any of the VIN #'s, ask them to mask them off (probably the only one will be the front fender).
Also check to see if there is any damage on the tow hook cover or the license plate plugs, they may get lazy and not check/fix them.
when you pick up the car, check for swirl marks on the fender / bumper and get them to use a swirl mark remover.

And many thanks to the folks on this board for swapping tales and for good wishes. You're really a great group, and I enjoy your virtual company.
