Front end damage
So I recently had a hit and run on my car. The front bumper is majorly cracked on the passanger side. How hard would it be to convince the body shop to switch the front bumper to the AP2? If they are going to buy a new bumper anyways is it a big deal for them to get the AP2 bumper? Will the insurance company care? Thanks.
its technically an s2000 bumper, you should be able to get them to buy the ap2 front instead. have them do the estimate, and if the ap2 front is more expensive, hey, whats a few extra dollars for the look you want? anyway, good luck with everything and hope everything works out. tell them the ap2 bumper will fit anyway.
It's more than just a bumper cover if you want it to fit right, and no shop in their right mind would actually cut your reinforcement and remove the absorber. HUGE liability issue. However, it's really not that hard to do the conversion. I just did mine and it was pretty easy. You'll need the following to do it right:
Front Cover
Front Emblem
Front Emblem clips
Grille
Grille Mounting Hardware
LT Fender Liner
RT Fender Liner
Center Splash Shield*
A few extra fender liner clips because they break pretty easily (4-5)
License Mounting Hardware*
Bumper Reinforcement*
Absorber*
You can get away without getting the items marked with a *, but the rest is pretty much required to get it to fit right. Also, Be prepared to pull the bumper on and off a few times to get it to fit just right. It's about 10x easier if you have access to a lift. If you don't, it's worth it to find someone who does. Good luck!

I had my front bumper messed up and the body shop had no problem doing this. I just paid the difference, which was like $200.
Yea, you'll need (in addition to the bumper/tow hook cover/grille) the right, left, and center splash shields (that's the $200). The absorber will be needed, too.
the absorber and splash shiled CAN be modified, but I'd go ahead and get the parts to have the job done right. After paying for the shop to modify those parts, you may as well have just bought new ones.
And, yea, the front support beam will need to have its top corners shaved/rounded a little. It's no biggie.
I now have an AP2 bumper on my AP1 and it looks sweet. I'm thinking of doing the back, too. The AP2 rear carries on the body crease all the way to the back and I think it looks sharp. That's an even simpler thing to do than the front. The shop that did mine was reputable (as they are USAA's choice) and they saw no problem with it as long as they were OEM parts.
