Default front plates and 'vettes, a rarity.

I've noticed that, with very, very few exceptions, I rarely see front plates on 'vettes. How do they get away with it? Try to take a casual survey over the next several days and report back on how many (or few) vettes that you see have front plates. (of course only in states that require them).

The Vette is typically bought by "mature, responsible, older" drivers. It is a stereotype of the car. A vette owner can get away with a lot that a driver of a slower sports car couldn't get away with.

I can't say for certain, but I think about 3/4 of the vettes around here (all gens) are plateless.

Actually, here in socal (west LA), it seems that 1 out of every dozen or so cars (of any type, any age) don't have a front plate. I was paranoid about pulling it off my car, so after a couple days of paying attention to cars in parking lots and driving by, I realized I didn't have much to worry about and took it off. That and the fact that there are three people at work who have never had front plates on their cars, and have never had a problem. Of course, now that I write this, I will probably get a ticket within the week....

A firend of mine just bought a new vette and his salesman asked him "You're not going to put the front license plate on it, are you?" He wasn't going to put it on anyway, but to have the dealer "recommend" that you not put it on....

In Dallas, I haven't seen a single Corvette with a front plate. Even though it's required in Texas, I counted how many vehicles didn't have one. So, as soon as my S2K was unloaded at my house, the bracket came off.

Actually, many of us STooK owners don't have front plates either. Pretty lucky, many of us are getting away with it. I don't have it for 18 months now and no problem (knock on wood)...

I drive with no front plate on my Maxima here in MA. I've never been stopped. KNOCK ON WOOD. I figure I'd rather pay the fine than have it on there. Or maybe I could be like "sorry, my bracket fell off, gotta get new bolts".....

Well... front plate-less Vette owner here. Ive seena few with them on.. but it detracts from the car so much... for the S2000... you dont have a built in recessed area in your bumper... if we take out cover off and add a plate.. it just looks REAL bad.

I lasted about 7 months without a plate and just got my first fix-it ticket. $10, but I have to put the plate back on and get a police officer to sign the ticket.

When I lived in Ohio all of my vettes (have four) had front plates, and the majority I saw did also. In FL no front plates required...HOORAY!

Interesting observation...
