Default front rotor & caliper to rear

hello guys.

this could be very stupid question.
I was wondering if I can use OEM front caliper and rotor on the rear.
if it is possible what kind of modification do I need to do this?
I bought front brake kit and I have oem ones to spare.

Check that there's room, first.
Engineer something for a parking brake.
Machine new mouting brackets.

would you have to do some kind of mod to ensure that the car sends enough braking power to the rear to really put those bigger calipers to use? not sure, so this could be a stupid question on my part.

Um, don't do it. There's no point. All you will accomplish is upsetting your brake balance. There is nothing to be gained by doing this.

what do you mean by brake balance?
I've seen many people upgrading only front brakes.
that shouldn't help on balance either...

I'd have to say that if the brake balance concept is new to you, try reading up on that before installing your front brake kit. Brake balance is a really really important topic when modifying your stock braking system (which has already a large amount of research and development time invested in it to be sure it works and works well). Upsetting the brake balance of the car could potentially result in loss of control during braking because of an uneven distribution of weight (read traction) between the front and rear of the car.

A really good braking mod that won't upset your brake balance is running really sticky tires. If you can lock up your tires with the stock brakes, then they're generating more than enough clamping force to stop the car good. Now, if you've got really sticky tires, it's going to increase the amount of force it will take to cause your tires to lock up, hence better braking!

thanks for the input.

but many of the members here only upgrade front brakes, and the reasoning is that front brakes are responsible for more than 60% of braking force.
so it will dramatically improve the braking ability compared to when the rear is upgraded.
that's the good side of upgrading front brakes.

I guess bad side would be disrupting the breaking balance that the car came with from the factory.


what should I do now?
I need some experience that people had on the track.
did anybody notice any bad aspect of changing only front brakes?

What issue with the stock braking system are you trying to correct? The stock brakes really are pretty darn good. The kicker is that the stock brakes will lock up your stock tires. That means that it's your tires that can't maintain traction. If you had Hoosiers or tires equally as "race-spec" then your stock braking system might not be adequate (but then again, the stock brakes are really darn good; see recently posted video with Motoharu Kurosawa's test of the S2000 prototype around the Nurburgring in Germany). I don't think he had many bad things to say about the brakes .

Though some Wilwood or Stop-tech multi-piston calipers would look really good behind some uber expensive wheels (both of which I couldn't drop the money on), I'd pick up a set of used AP1 wheels, slap some sticky tires on them, upgrade the brake pads, and bleed the lines. That'd be plenty up to snuff.

yea, the brakes are really good. Of course, if you race new pads are a good idea. The stockers are more street oriented.

Otherwise, you're just wasting your time and money. Changing the fronts only will disrupt the braking balance.

Don't the 06+ models have a braking balance controller (if they do, you can't retrofit it)?

I just wasted 1500..
I gotta upgrade rear brake kit to balance things off...
is there rear brake kit from spoon?
I can only find rear rotor on their website.
