Default Fuel gushing out of the tank

So I'm filling with gas. Decide to check then tires and hear "water" running. WTF, no water around here. Run around the car and gas is pouring out of the filler. Jerk the hose out and shut the pump off. Gas all over the place. Start the car and drive off. No explosion or fire. Put the cap back on.

The car is running fine and there is no check engine light.

Should I have the car checked out or just forget it?

Just wash it. The problem is with the fuel filler at the pump, not the car.

I dare you to pour gas on your car and not wash it for a week.

Go ahead.

Try it.

Empedocles is correct if he is using racing fuel. On my race car using racing fuel the paint was melted off. On regular 93 octain fuel you are correct, it won't hurt the paint, but it is advised that you at the very least rinse it off within a couple of hours. It can stain the paint, so to be on the safe side rinse it off.

Ok, I knew to wash the car off. My real question which I probably should have asked directly is whether a one time flooding of the gas tank does some damage to the emission control part that controls tank vapors.
