If you can't afford the insurance, don't get the car. This car absolutely needs full coverage; there is a reason, after all, why there premiums on these cars as so high relative to other sportscars like the Z.
I don't know if you're financing, but if you are, you have no choice in the matter because banks make it mandatory.

On a 2004? You would be nuts not to purchase comp and collision on the vehicle..

Why take the chance? Theft and vandalism aside if you wreck your car without a comprehensive policy you are paying for all the repairs to your own car yourself. And since you seem to be balking over spending the extra $$$ now I am assuming you don't have mounds of money laying around to cover your arse later if need be.

IMO liability only policies are for beaters. The only way I would ever own a nice car and not carry full coverage would be if I had dump trucks full of gold bullion and didn't want to pay the insurance company the extra $$$ based on principles.

92 Eclipse GSX liability only

Due to my accident free discount and multi vehicle discount I actually pay less for full coverage on the S2
That's also probably because one vehicle is considered your commuter/daily driver, and the second is your "fun" car.

I've heard some crazy insurance stories out of NJ.. SUV and S2k.. $11k a year.. crazy.... I would have sold both and commuted by bus at that point..

My friend work at mercury insurance ( I think)
He told me that COSTCO is the cheapest and the best. He said he has tried to find his friend all kind of discount, but at the end Costco still beat him by 100buck.

Before I had an accident on my record at 21st, so COSTCO won't let me join.
So now my accident has gone just a weeks ago. My insurance substract off 400buck from my family (of 3) - 6mons premium.
Then I quote at Costco, because I have no accident (finally).
They substract another 600buck off my family insurance.

PLUS Costco Minmium coverage is higher than my current Intermerdiate Coverage at 21st. With extra coverage included such as 5000 Medical.

So I say get COSTCO insurance. Join their membership. Hey, if you can save at least 100buck on costco insurance, then the membership pay for itself.

We going to swtich to Costco soon at the end of this month. Probably house insurance too.

no clue what rates run there.

OC has relatively low rates imo.

be sure to ask about all the available discounts, such as good driver, good student, etc. (if you're still in school).

if you're working, you can also qualify for discounts depending on your position and industry.

if someone cuts your top and steals your seats. The like 8-10k in damage (dealer estimate for replacement) Do you really think you want to go w/o full coverage?

hmm interesting..

i use mercury through an insurance broker (white & company, based in santa monica) and i have never been disappointed with them.

does anyone have experience with costco insurance? if their service is anything like their retail customer service, sounds like it would be worth checking out

You'd be crazy not to get full coverage, especially if you finance. Do you really want someone to steal the car while you still owe $10k on it?

Even if you get into an accident that isn't your fault, having coverage helps a LOT. If you don't have full coverage, you'll need to wait until the other party's insurance assumes responsibility before you cna get your car fixed. That might mean sitting in a tow yard or your garage for two to six weeks.

See who COSTCOs underwriter is.... I'm pretty sure COSTCO does not actually undewrite their insurance... No offense, but I've never seen a claims adjuster show up in a COSTCO vehicle
