Default Fun in the Snow!

So it snowed here. Thought I would test what the Racelogic can and cannot do.

With the system on:
You CAN do donuts. You can 4-wheel drift. You can swing the tail out.

It's not as "safe" as Honda VSA that uses brakes in addition to throttle cut.

It DOES make recovering from a slide very predictable.
It DOES prevent overcorrection.

Overall, it makes things happen in slow motion so that a little countersteer is all you need. It helps you regain grip while you're doing this.

It was so slippery out that even with Blizzaks, anything over 2000 rpms to start would just spin.

Kind of like ABS keeps you braking in a straight line, the Racelogic kept me accelerating in a straight line instead of having the tail sway to the right.

That being said, I'm going to drive the Rover in the thick stuff. The tires on the Honda are too wide (even -1 sized) and the weight isn't heavy enough to grip "well" in my perspective.

I did laugh at the RX-8 I saw spinning in place... every year new RWD owners get to realize that summer tires are not effective in the powder....

I thought about it, but you really need someone outside the car to take vids. Or else it'll be kind of boring.

And the wife is working tonight.

Studded Gislaved NordFrost 5, iced over parking lots and no VSA = as much fun and you can have it for 4 months (hopefully)

They don't let us use studded tires here.

It's a good thing... means that you don't need to use them. Studded tires destroy the pavement very quickly when it's exposed

First casualty of the snowy season:

I saw this pull into our parking ramp:
BMW 325xi with a black eye. It was wearing all-seasons.

It inspired me not to stretch the Rover tires for another season... I was getting wicked oversteer, which while fun in a 6000 lb vehicle... probably not a good thing.

Ordered these from Tirerack:
