Default Funny Dealer Stuff

I was supposed to pick up my 02 s2k Monday, but the dealer said that we could not do it because the car did not have a VIN and it would take a few days to take care of that. What the heck is up with that? How can they get one off the line without a VIN? Seems a little fishy to me. What do you guys think?

umm.. thats impossible. the vin is everywhere on the car.. the block, the firewall, and if im not mistaken, on each major body panel..

perhaps what he meant was that when it was getting for registration, the vin # mightve been incorrect.. then again, maybe he's just a putz.

Bizarre, if not misleading. As mentioned above, the VIN is found in various locations on the vehicle. In addition, dealers are given VIN #s days, if not weeks in advance of them actually getting the car. If you were supposed to pick it up Monday, and the dealer does not have a VIN#, it might be possible that the dealer hasn't even sourced a car for you yet. Perhaps a dealer trade gone sour? The possibilities are endless. I would be a asking a few more questions if I were you...

He probably didn't have the Monroney sticker (MSRP window sticker). It is illegal in most places to display the car without it, and he definately cannot sell the car without it.

One of the first S2000's I saw didn't have the sticker displayed. They couldn't find it either. After they told me they wanted 42k for the car and laughed at me for offering MSRP, I couldn't bring myself to help them out. I already found the sticker in the secret compartment along with an extra set of keys. Who knows... they still may be hiding in there.

They probably don't have the car because something got fouled up on the way. No worries though, I'm sure they are busting their butts to get you a new one ASAP. Afterall, they know they're late already.

oooold dealership trick..
"no we don't have the VIN, so you can't have the car." not mentioned: "we also don't have the wheels, the body, the windshield, the engine, or any other part of the car. we just don't have the balls to tell you your car STILL isn't here."
