That square-ish plastic piece may have fallen off of your rear view mirror. At least it did in my car. Check it out.

Hi Kids

There's a cobble stone court yard I have to drive over every time I pull out of my garage. I used to get a really ugly low frequency vibration from the dash cowl area. I put in the RM Racing strut tower brace, and noticed a slight improvement to the still ugly vibration. I then put in the Spoon lower x brace. Aaahh! No vibration from the front, but now I can hear something from the rear. So I've ordered the spoon rear lower brace through Giampiero, and am hoping it ever arrives and that it does as good a job on stiffening the rear as the spoon has done for the front.

Good luck.

2x6spds,
What are the affects on ride quality? I have not been tuned in to the X-brace mod. What is the net gain?

Hi Honda S2K, I don't know. I only drive on public roads and haven't pushed it hard enough to notice any difference other than a substantial stiffening of the structure. I'd hate to find out that it will now snap understeer followed by an immediate snap oversteer when pushed. Just kidding. I have noticed that the rear end didn't feel completely hooked up to what the front end is doing when cornering hard (at low speeds) and accelerating. I don't think the x brace has changed that. I'm really looking forward to putting in the spoon rear cross brace. Then I'm going to go looking for a road where I can do some relatively low speed high g carving so I can get a feel for the car closer to the edge. Good luck with yours!

I too am hearing a rattle coming from the center of the dash. It sounds like it is above and behind the radio. Maybe as far back as the firewall.

The rattle sounds like a loose screw or maybe two hard pieces of plastic rattling against each other. I hear it on rough pavement but not always. When I do hear it, it is relatively loud. It is driving me crazy.

I removed the radio thinking the rattle might be behind it. I wrapped some connectors in felt. This had no change on the rattle.

The strange this is I think I hear it more when the top is down. Perhaps it is coming from under the hood near the firewall.

Any ideas for me? It is defintely not the passenger seat belt, the convertable hooks or the spare tire.

I've had a dash rattle since I first got my car last October. It's somewhere behind the stereo controls. I've tried looking up under with no luck. I've had the dealer try and fix it twice, with no luck. It needs either a pretty big bump in the road or a series, like Bott dots. Sounds like a loose washer. I'm afraid I'm getting used to it. Probably requires taking the entire dash out, to fix.

If the piece has a slot in it, it does come from the rear view mirror. Just place it on the window and slide it upwards over the base of the mirror until it clicks in place.

I too had a rattle that I thought was coming from the dash. It ended up being a loose bulb in the passenger side interior light assembly.
