Its not necessarily confirmation of a replacement for the S2000, but Honda announced they will show a concept roadster on July 22nd @ the London Motor Show:

They came straight out and said it was not a replacement for the S2000. Maybe this is the rebirth of the S1000 project. Either way it is a serious project by Honda R&D because they have given it the moniker "Open Study Model"........... reminiscent of "Sports Study Model" or SSM... which became the SSX prototype.... which became the S2000.

Possibly a sign that Honda is giving up on rwd?

Its stated that the OSM could be built of the new small car platform.

I have read that as well.... possibly sharing the CR-Z's platform and drivetrain. A hybrid roadster... people would go apeshit for it like they will for the CR-Z. Toyota is not going to have as easy a time pushing Prius' out as they have been soon.

That much is true but as of recent.... I am not sure I want to see any more new designs from Honda.

That concept looks pretty cool. I like the front but I'm not sure about the low swooping rear end.

Reposting the pic on this page to make it easier to reference for discussion:

My thoughts:
1) The sketch looks great.
2) I hope the concept model looks as good.
3) I hope the concept's performance is as good or better than an S2000, while maintaining their efficiency targets.
4) Assuming 2 and 3, I hope it makes it into production for a reasonable cost.
