Garage Kept vs. Outdoor/Covered
County fairgrounds in snow country seem to universally store boats, RVs, and cars for the winter. Good income for the Fair Board. I had to trailer my J/24 several miles to find a door she'd fit thru as she was 11' high on the trailer. Much better that covered and in the boat yard.

At the moment I don't have a garage. From April-October it will sit outside. My goal is to protect the paint from fading. How bad is using an outdoor cover? Should I be concerned on the days it rains ? The car would be stored in the winter.
Covers should only be installed when the car is surgically clean and dry otherwise the cover will grind any surface dirt into the paint. There are probably some paint finishes that will help but I'd skip the cover.

A good quality cover will not hurt the paint.
I keep mine outside during the summer months and have covered it with a Covercraft WeatherShield HP cover
and my paint looks as good as the day I bought it. We had a late season ice storm a few years ago and that
cover was the only thing protecting my car from sticks, debris, etc. and there was zero damage.
If you are going to cover it, get a GOOD quality cover, one made for outdoors.

I use a cover a fair amount inside of my garage. I will wash the and throw it under the cover when I go on trip or even when I don't see driving it anytime soon. Keeps the dust of and in my case, keeps the lab from rubbing on it when he goes swimming.
I also use a battery tender that goes underneath (hood closed) so the cover does not interfere. I have a sign (paint stir stick) stating "Charging" that I leave on the seat or dash to remind me not to drive away without disconnecting.

One other tidbit. If you want to keep your headlight lenses in perfect condition, put some Expel film on them. They apparently do not sell the pre-cutout version for the S anymore like I received but you can still get the film and trim it during installation. No more polishing and keeping up with cloudy lenses like my other vehicles. I have it on a newer vehicle I just purchased. Other ones it is too late!
