where i work - $2.19/gallon chevron

i just love the way how the gas stations do business, it takes them a min to jack up the price and take them forever to lower it ...

You must mean AUD$1 per liter. With the conversion rate you provided, it's about the same as what people in San Francisco are paying ($2.30/gallon)

The cheapest places around my area sells premium for $1.75 and regular for $1.57.
