You have a very thin skin for someone who goes around calling people morons and idiots.

 

I don't know if I qualify as an idiot or a moron , but I typically shift near 5k in normal driving, drive the snot out of the car at an autocross on the weekend, and get 21-22mpg. Pulling the tire trailer on the highway, top up, air on, 75mph, I'll get 30mpg.

I bought a beater civic so I didn't have to worry about gas mileage in the S, because it's not a daily driver.

I've achieved 49 mpg in the civic by drafting trucks, cars and using light throttle, keeping the speed down on the highway and engine braking instead of using the brakes when possible.

 

Only if they try to get 8 people in it. Then I'll say they should have bought a van.

 

i drive a land rover disco to remind me that the s2000 really has the fuel economy that feels like a prius, fuel economy in the s2000 has never really crossed my mind.

and i've gotten fuel econ as bad as 10 driving in the city in the rover.

 

The worst I've gotten is 10.2 mpg at highplainsraceway on the whole tank. I average 27 in the city now and 33 when it was my daily and I drove it highway to school. I shift at 3k so I'm usually in sixth gear in the forty to fifty mph range. But the moment you want to accelerate you should downshift instead of inputting more throttle.

Contrary to what some people have said, having the throttle open more at low rpm does not get better gas mileage. Yes, it does greatly reduce air flow restriction but you can't utilize such a technique unless your engne is designed to run that way like the r18 in the new civics. Otherwise, since our cars are simply connected to a throttle position sensor the reading will pump more fuel into he air charge resulting in less mileage with a richer air fuel mixture.

Basically throttle position for gas mileage is a very complicated subject since there are so many parameters to take into account and you'll probably need graphs with engine speed engine load due to throttle position and fuel amount injected to find the most efficient throttle position at all conditions and it will change with all the different scenarios. But as a rule of thumb. Less throttle will get better has mileage.

However, to better utilize this info you should always try and stay within the power band within your designated cruising rpm range. So don't use sixth gear to accelerate at twenty miles per hour, only use it to cruise at forty plus mph. So if you're at fourty mph and need to accelerate then you should downshift to get within the power band within your 3k rpm range.

 

Yea why not try shifting at 2k instead of 3.5k. Try to notice lights ahead of u and cost to them instead of using brakes. Also try to be light on the gas when taking off. The best i have got is 31mpg but i usally get around 23-26mpg depending how i drive

 

stay off the throttle and use the factory intake box.
