Default Gear Grinding

I have a 2004 S2000 and there appears to be an issue with the gears grinding when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, especially when the car is cold. Has anyone else had this problem. Thanks

I've noticed mine less as the car is "broken in" more. Still, when it's colder than a witch's tit in a brass bra out, it'll still do it. Just be carefull with it until it's warmed up.

it happens to me from time to time. Even after the car is fully warmed up. But it doesn't bother me. I just have to push the clutch in a little deeper and the problem is gone

I push my clutch to the floor and it will still do the 1st-2nd "crunch". It doesn't grind, just a really notchy, sloppy engagement. Again, mostly when the car is cold.

Mine is an 03 with about 3000 miles now..just got new last November. I do still notice some gear grind, especially when cold...but notice after any highway driving when maybe to trans oil get warmer the grinding goes away.

Mainly going to 2nd and sometimes to 3rd gear.

rburkkel,

I have had my MY04 for about a month or so and have driven about 1000 miles. My car most DEFINITELY grinds when cold (even here in HAWAII) but only if you shift quickly before the tranny is warmed up. After the tranny is warmed up, mine usually doesn't do it, even when shifting at the redline.

Although, I have noticed that if you shift quickly and HARD (which you would be prone to do if you were, uh, in a hurry then it grinds even when warm.

I am going to try to change the fluid to synthetic next week and see if that helps with the problem. If not, I am either going to begin working with the dealer or live with shifting easy until the car is warm. Also, I am really worried that this problem will get worse over time.

Good luck!

Mark

I guess I'm lucky because mine has never had this problem. Even when it's cold out (like down in the 15 deg F range). I do push the clutch pedal to the floor for every shift though. The only time mine has ever grinded was when my Dad was at the wheel when I first got it. He wanted to drive the car and proceeded to grind the $hit out of 2nd not once, but twice. Needless to say, he's never driven her since...

Mine doesn't grind unless you consider it to be notchy. But it is hard to shift gear when it not fully warm. But I drive slow so it not really a big deal.
