Is it always when you put it into 1st? Or only when you've been driving and come to a stop, light goes green and you put it back into first? I find that if i'm moving and come to a stop, i throw it straight into 1st i get a little *chunk* sound, but lets say im coming to a stop, ill take it out of gear, clutch in, row through 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd into neutral. Right when i stop, light goes green, I go into first perfectly smoothly. I know there are some synchro issues from our cars and you should row through all the gears for the synchros to slowly do their job and not put unnecessary stress. So it might be the synchro working extra hard when you throw it right into first from moving. But I could be wrong since I'm not really an expert here, but there's an idea!

Try waiting for a moment before going into first with the clutch depressed. You're hearing the tranny stop.

Try rowing through all the gears, wait around to see if anyone else has a better answer, then take it in to check out if it still persists, or if you're just worried about it. I would do those in that order, It's worth the piece of mind IMO. I just did all my fluids just for the same reason, and when I saw the tranny and diff fluid, they were practically new but at least I now know my next interval change for so and so fluid!

Also try what rob said too.

Heh, I'm gonna go drive my car around to see if it happens if I row through the gears when coming to a stop. Really though, I just wanna drive my car

That's NOT what he told you to do. By letting the clutch up again, you are connecting the motor to the tranny, AGAIN, and that spins up the tranny. Then when you push the clutch in again and throw it into 1st or 2nd, the rest of the drive train (from the output shaft back to the wheels) slams the rotating parts of the tranny to a sudden stop. That's when you get that clunk, AGAIN.
This scenario gets posted every few months for the past 13 years. If people understood how this drivetrain works and why it does what it does, they would realize what causes this clunk and why it's perfectly normal and harmless and what to do if you don't want it to happen.
This just doesn't seem to ever get old.

That makes sense, how long does it usually take for things to settle down? I stopped having this issue by just heel and toeing each gear on the way down.
