Talking General age group of S2000 owners

I'm just curious. I'm 24 years old and I make a nice salary. I was wondering if I'm being too self-indulgant for my age to purchase a new or used S2000?

well it depends on the rest of your budget. i'm only 20 but i have my own s2000 and an accord coupe. do you have surplus income that you put towards savings? if you can use some of that to justify your s2000 purchase then its not too self-indulgent imo. if you are maxing out your budget and live paycheck to paycheck then i wouldn't buy one. what do you guys consider a nice salary nowadays anyways?

well im raking in $2500 a month (take home) and i live with my parents. i pay $220 a month for PG&E and spend a little here and a little there. i dont have a girlfriend either. much less any kids. i spend my money on my yearly subscription to xbox, my sprint pcs phone and tuning magazines. i buy shoes once a year and i dont wear hairgel. but, thats pretty much it. the reason i ask if its self indulgent, is because i have 2 brothers and 1 sister who each got their own car before i did. but now i need my own car to get to work and school. i dont want to overdue it. but i didn't see the polls for the average age for S2000 owners and i realised that most of the people who own an S2000 are in my age group. that helps me alot.

I'm 23 and I just put a deposit down on a 00 s2k. My '00 Si was stolen and I had about 5 thousand dollars of equity above my loan. I got my s2k for only 16,800, so financing wasn't that bad, as I only needed 11,800

I'm 22 (about to turn 23), just bought a used 2004 in Rio Yellow. I make just over 41k yearly but I have a fiancee (no kids). Thats going to be going to about 60k-65k in 4 to 5 years time. It all depends on how nice a "nice" salary is. The descision to buy weighed really heavily on me as I am pretty conservative financially but I figure, hell - I got about 5 to 6 years before kids and you only live once so I pulled the trigger. I feel very comfortable with my descision, but cars are my thing - this is my big toy, rather than a plasma tv or fast computer or a 5k mountain bike. IMHO its all about where the S2000 is in your overall priorities.

I'm 20, have had the car for about 7 months. If you have a steady job and can afford the car without living paycheck by paycheck then I say go for it. And with what you said your income is, I guarantee you can afford it. I make about the same as you do each month, go to school full time (pay for my own tuition), pay for rent, insurance (health and car), cell phone, cable, internet, credit cards, water, electricity.. i think you see where I'm going here you can afford the car, it's not a Lamorghini

Real estate first, then cars. Unfortunately young people who are at the age where this advice is most needed, seldom listen.

I didn't listen. My first car was a Lotus at 18. My first house wasn't until 40.
I'd be far better off if I'd done that backwards.

BTW the question in this thread was age, 54.

Who at age 20 has enough credit history and cash to buy a house? They are better off buying a car to show future borrowers that they can take out a $25K loan and pay it back over 4-5 years with no late payments. Of course I would like to have a $250K house right now, but that's not possible. I think financing a car can tremendously help your credit score/history for the future.
