Default Gettin' there...oh the torture!

311 miles. 60 degrees and sunny here in the Old Dominion, so I dropped the top. I can feel the car loosening up - my 5K upshifts have more punch, and the 1-2 shift is getting a better feel (it sort of launched into 2nd, now it is starting to snick like the other gears).

Now I do not need to tell you this, but I have not owned a Vert since my 1987 Corvette: alfresco driving changes everything! It changes your outlook on the world, your feeling of freedom, the panorama of sounds and smells, your sense of wonder of the abundance of life and the beauty of this world, and a sensation of speed that cannot be replicated in a coupe or sedan. Moonroofs do not make it.

Now I must pass the 600 mile hurdle - based on my experiences with cars and the tremendous difference in the tightness of this engine compared to others, including the Cobra which is a finely machined piece, I cvan understand why the Honda engineers recommend taking it easy.

You're gonna have to change your handle after 600, RR. With the top down, on a gorgeous day, slippin' into VTEC, there's no room for rage...just bliss.

Rage Against the Sedan! My new band. Maybe we should start a support group for new S2K owners shy of 600 miles. A 12-step program, 50 miles at a time.

I hear ya, Hulkster - but not tonight, too many zany boozers afoot. I'll do my zany boozing at home. I did lay down the 3rd coat of Zaino this afternoon - it is cooking as we speak.

I was telling my brother, he of 2004 E55 AMG fame, that the S2000 had the best paint I have ever seen on a car, short of my NSX, and the 1961 Fuel Injected Corvette I brought to Bloomington with an 8K paint job in white lacquer, silver cove, red interior - one of 815 ever made. I hated to sell that car. He agreed that the paint on my car was better than his, which has some orange peel on one fender.

Actually, I am quite civilized - I picked RR because it was unique and the whole road rage thing was the big issue of the moment a few years ago, culminating in the famous dog thrown into traffic incident.

Yipes, check out my posts. The short version is this: Honda recommended 10k miles in 2000. Well, oils have come a long way since then. Today's GIII hydroisomerized (hydrocracked, hydrowaxed) mineral oils (like Pennzoil, Valvoline) have lubricity approaching the synthetics of the era. So by my way of thinking, the factory fill of today is essentially a synoil of 2000. Get it? Yet, Honda has not changed its recommendation, which suggests to me that it is not that big a deal anymore.

Still, I would be conservative and wait at least until the first oil change, which most folks say is 3700 miles or so as the crow flies.

Of course, I am changing oil at 1000 miles, and adding a can of Mr. Moly Break-In. It will not be a synoil though.

I will be using Amsoil or Red Line - I have cases of both in 10w30.
