I am soooo tempted to pick up GPW 06 with hardtop its unreal.
GPW for me too if they had made the seats and carpeting red.. I'm definetly done with yellow cars though.

8k, it sounds like the delay is a factor of the clutch delay valve. When I would shift quick in my '04, it would have that delay and actually slip the clutch, quite annoying.

Wow. Congrats on your 06. But personally, I'd prob keep the 04 and wait. The design is getting dated. But it's the only 2 seat roadster I'd buy though. I'd wait 2 more years to see what is coming out rather than part with an 04 just to get an 06. My 0.02. How can you lose control of an 04??????? You must be taking too many chances on the road. Buttttt, I might trade down and get an AP1 just to mix it up.

. The comment you made about the VTEC, I knew in the 04 it was less drastic of a change. However you mentioned its almost not noticeable in the '06, that really is sounding like a deal breaker.
I never commented on the Vtec .....and actually, it's not as dramatic yes, but it's much stronger and smoother......I know when I dyno'd my 02, right before Vtec the power curve dips slightly and that is why the Vtec kick felt to drastic....I prefer the new feel, no dip and very strong

It's the damn SEATS!!!! They don't LEAN back far enough!! It took me forever to figure that out! I feel closer to the windshield. And I'm short. You guys must be cramped. I don't feel difference w/the DBW from my other ones! But I LOVE the new BLUE. Oh, and you can turn the VSA off but I am not as good as driver so I leave it on! And the VTEC feels EXACTLY the same to me as my 04. I think some people just look for things to be different. You can still hear it too. Go get one.
there she is.....I ended up on the bandwagon

Thanks for the nice write up TJS. So, i guess the 06 does not drive as a good kart compare to the older model right? IMO, i think the 06 is more like a touring car now comparing to the older model.
Don't get me wrong, the 06 performs just like it's predecessors but much more comfortably. A lot of AP1 owners didn't like the changes made to AP2 and I can understand why when I was comparing 04 to 06.

The DBW works fantastic, no lag but it's not a cable, it a computer that controls your throttle and it does take time to adjust your driving style to get the car to perform like it should. The transition when engaging VTEC is much smoother, so I guess it depends on what kind of a drive you want.

something else feels different, but I'm not sure....either the steering wheel is ever so slightly higher or the seat feels ever so slightly lower...anyone else notice this? (it may just be in my head)
I felt like I was sitting higher as well. I figured it was the new seats. I found that they are not interchangeable with the other years, there are differences in the rails that mount them. Also there are sensors in the seats so they might be thicker (you can see through the holes in the seats the white mesh material) or...it could all just be in my head too.

Take a look a the long thread on '06 changes in the UTH section for more information.

I am not familiar with the 04's, but several of my passengers have commented on having their necks snapped when my 06 engages VTEC in 1st or 2nd gear. So that attribute of the S continues. If there is a difference between the 04 AP2's and the 06, my guess it is in the ECU programming and not due to the DBW.

The 06 has major changes to the electronics and the ECU manages more functions than previously. These changes have simplified some systems -- for example, there is no longer the electric auxiliary air pump and all its valves and plumbing. Furthermore, the immobilzer system relies on dynamically changing codes generated form the ECU.

So basically the 06 is really an AP2 1/2!! I am not surprised if some of the driving feel may be slightly different. But, in the end, I love the way my 06 drives whether stuck in urban traffic or in the twisties in the mountains, and it is my daily driver on a 19 mile commute to work.

I was thinking that it was the clutch delay valve. But I hear you on that it does get quite annoying.

On the bright side... it is a smooth engagement... lol.

So you're saying that everytime we drive the car... the car is reading a different code from the key that was programmed the last time we drove the car?

That is how I understood the write-up in the Helms manual -- they refer to it as fourth generation immobilizer and the previous setup as a second generation. I do not profess to be an expert on this by any means. However, my humble garage door opener does just that, the motor unit Rx/Tx sends a new code to the hand-held unit every time the door cycles.

Maybe someone else has more details.
