That is and it shouldn't be there, even though it's outside the area where the teeth engage. A free replacement set will be sent immediately to Dark_Sub_Rosa. This must have gotten by the Richmond inspection.

BTW, as Stratocaster said in his email last night to everyone who has taken delivery of the 4.57s. the gears have been installed in my car by hardtopguy, and he is taking it through several days of testing to determine the best backlash settings (the Richmond engineers think the recommended Honda settings are too low and may contribute to overheating of the gears).

Jeff said he had my car it out on the road yesterday and the performance was just what we had hoped for. We have a fuller report after the testing is complete.

Jeff and his brother will be in touch with the Richmond engineers over the next few days so and on the basis of their feedback on our testing, we wil email the recommended settings in a day or two. So if you're having your newly-delivered 4.57s installed soon, make sure you give your installer our final recommendations for backlash settings. We'll be emailing them to all buyers and posting them here when we have them.

Yes, I would hold off until Jeff and Joe get the specs pinned down. That way you may avoid extra installation costs.
